Oregon marijuana businesses say Facebook taking down their accounts

Marijuana dispensaries in Oregon say Facebook has locked or removed their business pages in recent weeks, saying drug-related images and posts violated the site's rules.

It's not the first time marijuana dispensaries have encountered problems with social media. Last year, Instagram began shutting down cannabis-related business accounts.

Matt Price, owner of a chain of marijuana dispensaries called Cannabliss, said his business is on its fifth Instagram account. Each time Instagram shuttered his account – wiping out thousands of followers -- he opened a new one.

"You pick yourself up and dust yourself off and start all over again," said Price, whose company's Facebook page was suddenly removed last week.

CBD Is The Chemical Medical Marijuana Is Buzzing About

It used to be all about the THC. In other words, cannabis' popularity has always been attributable to this psychoactive chemical, which gets people "high."

But marijuana's bad boy image has been getting a well-earned makeover in recent years, thanks in part to its surging popularity as a legitimate form of herbal medicine.

In fact, it's not cannabis' infamous THC content that's creating a real buzz these days. Instead, it's a lesser-known chemical called CBD that is attracting much of the attention. And it's all because CBD provides some of marijuana's most sought-after healing powers, according to medical studies.

State Officials Disagree On Who Will Track Medical Marijuana Plants

California’s new medical cannabis law will put the state in charge of tracking each marijuana plant from “seed to sale.” But the Brown administration and the state's independent tax board are at odds about who will oversee it.

The state Board of Equalization is preparing to do the job. Board member Fiona Ma held a hearing with companies that supply software to other states. But Ma says the governor's budget proposal doesn't supply the necessary funds.

"Because of the extra responsibilities that we have to do this track and trace program, we need extra employees," says board member Fiona Ma. "We don’t have authority to hire new people."

Marijuana DUI Testing: The New Technology for Police

While the legal marijuana industry has been quietly blowing up in a handful of states, law makers and law enforcement have mostly been relegated to the sidelines. Voters in legalized states have made it quite clear that they want cannabis prohibition ended, and with it, enforcement of the many laws that often target the poor and minorities. But there is one thing that people do want enforced: driving under the influence.

Blood Tests Can't Tell Who's Really Too Stoned To Drive

Why Is It So Hard To Test Whether Drivers Are Stoned?

Law enforcement officials would love to have a clear way to tell when a driver is too drugged to drive. But the decades of experience the country has in setting limits for alcohol have turned out to be rather useless so far because the mind-altering compound in cannabis, THC, dissolves in fat, whereas alcohol dissolves in water.
