Technology Eases Pot Banking Pain

While the Colorado-based Fourth Corner Credit Union aimed to serve the cannabis industry, another idea was brewing – an application that could ultimately be the saving grace for similar financial institutions. A software platform, called Hypur, was being developed as a compliance tool to assist cash-intensive businesses. Its original intent was to service payday lenders and check cashing businesses.

“Back in day one, we weren't talking about cannabis at all. So there was no discussion, we didn't build it for cannabis,” Andre G. Herrera, executive vice president of banking and compliance for Hypur, said.

Cold Plasma / Hydroxyl Odor Control for Commercial Scale Marijuana Greenhouses

There are a number of odor control options for the vented air from smaller Marijuana greenhouse operations, however when one gets to a commercial scale it is a good idea to consider odor control methods generally suited for industrial facilities which have similar, large volumes of odorous air that needs to be neutralized.

Investment by Philip Morris in a Cannabis Technology Company is a Game Changer for the Industry

Last February I was asked by USA Today whether I thought that the cigarette industry was investing in the cannabis industry. My comment at the time was that I thought that cigarette manufacturers wouldn’t go anywhere near the plant until it was legal in the U.S. at the federal level.

Almost one year has passed, and the cigarette giant, Philip Morris International has announced that it will invest $20 million in a medical cannabis technology company. The investment was not in a U.S. company, but instead, in Syqe Medical, an early-stage Israeli company.

A Seller Of Marijuana-Related Domain Names Expects A Very Big Year

Drew Riegel makes a six-figure salary in the marijuana business without touching the plant, holding any physical inventory, or hiring any employees. Instead, he closely watches the development of the emerging industry, identifies the web domain names the players there might want, and buys them. Keeping about 1000 names at a time, he sells them to companies or individuals, through his web site MarijuanaNames.org. He keeps some names for himself and uses them to create web sites offering marijuana-related content that link to other web sites where customers can buy related products. Riegel receives a percentage of those sales revenues, a common internet practice called affiliate sales.

Northwest Marijuana Growers Try To Go Green (But It's Hard)

Marijuana growers in the Northwest are going to use a lot of electricity in the next 20 years, enough to power up to 200,000 homes, according to a recent forecast.

That’s because a lighting module to grow four marijuana plants takes as much energy as 29 refrigerators.

After some hesitation, Washington utilities are now rewarding marijuana growers for reducing their energy use.

Perfect pot? U of Guelph researchers working to grow marijuana optimally

GUELPH — Marijuana has been grown in a clandestine manner by a great many growers for a long time.

Despite that, an optimal way of cultivating the plant to boost its medicinal properties has not be found, says a University of Guelph plant scientist who is leading the charge to perfect pot growing.

Mike Dixon and his research team in the University of Guelph's controlled environmental system research facility and program, has received $210,000 from Ontario Centres of Excellence. The money will fund the application of new irrigation technology to medical cannabis growing. It's a process by which small sensors are strapped to the stem of a plant and hooked up to a wireless data logger that measures the water status of the plant every 15 minutes.
