He sees Dōs as the solution to virtually experience, and even enhance, the effect of cannabis. “We are selling the mood a particular strain of cannabis typically has on users,” he says. Many are calling him a genius. The man is an artisan, locksmith and above all else, he explains, he is a beekeeper.

One of the most appealing parts of cannabis is the scents and flavors associated with the various varieties of the plant. Organic compounds known as terpenes are produced by most plants as a defense against herbivores, who otherwise would consume them, and as semiochemicals that serve to communicate chemically with other living things. There are over 120 different types of terpenes that can be expressed by the cannabis plant, although some are only found in trace amounts.

Terpenes make up between five and 10 percent of the total oils that are produced in the trichrome glands. Although they are constantly being produced, they’re easily vaporized by heat and daylight throughout the day, making the morning an ideal time to harvest.

The medical marijuana market is expected to double in size by 2020 as clinical studies provide evidence that cannabis can safely be used as an alternative medicine. GW Pharma (GWPH) and PharmaCyte (PMCB), for example, are driving development of new cannabinoid drug candidates for serious diseases, including epilepsy and cancer, as potential alternatives to chemotherapy and other standards of care that are known to cause serious adverse events.

CBE caught up with Scott Denholm, Executive Director at Metrc, Franwell Corporation’s Marijuana Business Unit that supplies Radio Frequency ID (RFID) tracking technology to its two state clients, the Colorado Marijuana Enforcement division (MED), and soon to the Oregon Liquor Control Commission (OLCC) and its licensees.
