New Technique Could More Accurately Measure Cannabinoid Dosage in Marijuana Munchies

As more states decriminalize recreational use of marijuana and expand its medical applications, concern is growing about inconsistent and inaccurate dosage information listed on many products, including brownies and other edibles. But now scientists report that they have developed a technique that can more precisely measure cannabis compounds in gummy bears, chocolates and other foods made with marijuana. They say this new method could help ensure product safety in the rapidly expanding cannabis retail market.

The researchers present their work today at the 251st National Meeting & Exposition of the American Chemical Society (ACS).

At Tel Aviv cannabis tech conference — lots of tech, no pot smoking allowed

TEL AVIV (JTA) – He was chilling out in the corner, tipped back in his chair, newsboy cap askew on his head, a grin on his face and smoke gently wafting from his mouth.

Finally, I thought, I’ve found someone smoking pot at a cannabis conference.

CannaTech, an international conference held for the first time last week at venues in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, featured seminars on everything from the global cannabis investment market to quality control in commercial cannabis cultivation. There were vendors showcasing the latest growing technologies and unique handmade smoking devices. One guy was even touting a product to alleviate the dry-mouth feeling stoners are all too familiar with.

The Man Mapping the Marijuana Genome Is Changing the Weed Game

Because he’s a scientist, not a back-slapping venture capitalist, Mowgli Holmes loathes using the term networking to describe even the portion of his job that entails shaking hands in the cannabis industry. But it was networking that brought the chief scientific officer of Phylos Bioscience in Portland, Oregon, to Las Vegas in November 2014 to attend the Marijuana Business Conference and Expo—and to smoke a massive joint with one of the cannabis movement’s legends, Ohio lawyer Don Wirtshafter.

Could technology which detects when you are distracted at the wheel save lives?

Major automakers are investing in car monitoring systems which detect when you are distracted or too tired to drive effectively.

According to the Wall Street Journal, a number of high-profile vehicle manufacturers are investing and testing driver monitor systems which keep an eye on your movements and body readings, in order to give you a nudge or alert you when your focus is faltering.

Israel Wants to Be the Tech Hub for the World Cannabis Industry

“As much as we love cannabis, this is a non-consumption event.”

That admonition kicked off the first day of presentations and roundtables at Cannatech, a three-day conference on the marijuana industry held this past week in Israel. Instead of pot edibles, hundreds of attendees munched on pita sandwiches and Turkish bourekas.

And, save for occasional patches of pungent air, the request to keep the event sober mostly worked.

Medical Marijuana Testing on the Way to Becoming Law in Colorado

Starting this summer, medical marijuana products will be required to undergo testing by certified facilities, much the way that recreational products are currently tested. Last week the Colorado House passed House Bill 16-1064, which will enable facilities to get a medical marijuana testing license in anticipation of that testing, and the state Senate passed the proposal on March 8.

High Science: How Hemp Is The Most Effective Super-Material

Magic things happen when you get down to the nanoscale. Suspensions of gold or silver particles change colors; calcium carbonate molecules can be arranged to either produce beautiful opalescent abalone or dusty chalk. The way things are put together is the difference between coal and diamonds, so what has scientists so excited about hemp nanotechnology?

Why hemp?

Investors are high on Israel’s role in the cannabis market

Second annual CannaTech conference brings hundreds of delegates from 15 countries to see what Israeli ‘cannapreneurs’ can offer them.

Marijuana conferences are popping up on a near weekly basis in the United States. Entrepreneurs, scientists and investors have to weed out the recreational gatherings from the more important industry confabs.

But there was no doubt that the CannaTech 2016 International Summit on Cannabis Innovation this week in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem was an essential event.
