Marijuana Social Network Is Denied Listing on Nasdaq

Nasdaq officials have told MassRoots, a sort of “Facebook for pot,” that it can't join the exchange.

The Denver-based social network has 775,000 users from the 24 states where marijuana is legal medicinally (including those states where it's also legal recreationally), who use the platform to find like-minded people in their area, learn about nearby dispensaries, and follow pot legalization news. MassRoots has said it meets the criteria for listing on Nasdaq—it has a $40 million market capitalization value and “well over 300 shareholders” through over-the-counter markets, according to CNN Money.

Same-Day Medical Marijuana Delivery Service Launches in Calgary

It’s door-to-door delivery at decidedly high speed.

Aurora Cannabis Inc., which operates Alberta’s only licensed industrial medical marijuana producer, announced Tuesday that customers in Calgary and surrounding communities will be able to get same-day delivery of the drug used to combat a variety of ailments.

Cam Battley, Aurora’s senior vice-president of communications and medical affairs, said Alberta has quickly become the second largest per capita base of medical marijuana users in Canada, with some 3,000 patients now registered with the company since its launch in January.

“It’s growing so fast it’s taking people’s breath away,” he said of the demand that’s prompted the expedited delivery model.

Liberals' pot plan looks for way to detect and deter drug-impaired driving

The man tasked with coming up with Canada's marijuana law has a proposal for dealing with one of the biggest issues facing legalization: prevention of driving under the influence of pot.

While police can conduct field sobriety tests if they suspect a driver is impaired by any substance, there is no established breathalyzer equivalent in roadside policing to easily detect and measure impairment when it comes to driving while high.

Liberal MP Bill Blair says oral fluids testing could be the roadside measure used by Canadian authorities to detect marijuana in a person's system.

"The kits are currently used in Europe," Blair told CBC News in an exclusive interview.

Consume responsible amounts of marijuana with a Keurig for weed

Just when you thought you had run out of ways to consume marijuana, in comes something newer and weirder.

CannaKorp has unveiled a new vaporizer, the CannaCloud, scheduled to hit the market early next year. While the vaporizer isn't an official Keurig, the design is similar. CannaKorp will offer legally grown marijuana, available in adorable single-use pods.

CannaKorp's vaporizer will be sleek and white, and vaporizes the marijuana by heating it without setting it on fire. The company argues that their product combines simple design with powerful efficacy.

Curbing The Cannabis Industry’s Growing Power Consumption

Marijuana cultivation is estimated to use one percent of America’s electricity output. That’s enough juice to power 1.7 million average homes.

And as more states make the drug legal in some form, that power consumption is expected to soar. Northwest energy officials project cannabis grows will suck up three percent of the region’s power by 2035.

Now, efforts are underway to get growers to reduce their energy use.

John Kagia cuts right to the chase.

“Indoor cannabis cultivation is extraordinarily energy intensive,” he flatly states.

Kagia is Director of Industry Analytics for New Frontier, a Washington DC-based cannabis industry consulting firm. For example, he says:
