Arizona residents disapprove of proposed medical marijuana cost

Jodi Lenz prepares medical marijuana for packaging at Mohave Green medical marijuana dispensary in Arizona.

More residents on Thursday expressed disapproval over proposed costs of license fees associated with Guam’s new medical marijuana program.

The public hearing at the Guam Legislature was the second in a three-day series of hearings concerning proposed regulations for the program. Island voters approved the use of medical marijuana in last year’s General Election.

“I can’t charge $1,000 for a red velvet cookie! That’s just unacceptable,” said Andrea Pellacani, spokeswoman for Grassroots Guam. “At these rates, how many patients would even sign up for the program?”

State panel to vote on medical marijuana for autism

LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Michigan would become the first state to allow medical marijuana for children with severe autism if a senior official follows the recommendation made Friday by an advisory panel.

The state’s Medical Marijuana Review Panel voted 4-2 to recommend autism as a condition that qualifies for the drug.

Supporters say oil extracted from marijuana and swallowed has been effective in controlling extreme physical behavior by kids with severe autism. Pot wouldn’t be smoked.

The panel was influenced by comments received earlier from some Detroit-area doctors, especially the head of pediatric neurology at Children’s Hospital of Michigan, and parents desperate for relief. Many of the three dozen spectators cheered and applauded after the vote.

Colorado says ‘no’ to medical marijuana for post-traumatic stress

John Evans insists that calling post-traumatic stress a disorder is like cutting yourself and calling the blood a disorder.

“It is a natural reaction to an unnatural event,” says Evans, director of support group Veterans 4 Freedom. Not only military veterans, but women who have suffered domestic abuse or sexual assault, hospice workers, EMTs, firefighters, police officers and even those affected by natural disasters can have post-traumatic stress, he believes.

Chris Christie, Newfound Drug Warrior, Is Too Late To Stop Pot

He vows to crack down on all marijuana use if elected, but most Americans live under liberalized pot laws.

No presidential election truly feels real until there’s a solid incident of hippie-punching, and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie was happy to throw the inaugural punch this week by telling pot smokers that as soon as he’s in the White House, the party is over.

That apparently applies to medical marijuana users, too. Christie said he would enforce the federal laws prohibiting all use and possession of marijuana, which rank the plant as dangerous as heroin and provide no exception for medical use.

Company in Running for License to Dispense Medical Marijuana in NY Wants to Open Brooklyn Facility

A medical marijuana dispensary is one step closer to setting up in Brooklyn after a community board Wednesday approved its location as the state gets ready to announce which companies will be given licenses. NY1's Jeanine Ramirez filed the following report.

Located under the Gowanus Expressway in Sunset Park, a vacant building that used to house batting cages may soon grow into a new business: a medical marijuana dispensary. A cannabis company called Mindful Medical leased the site, hoping to be one of just five to get a vendor license from New York State.

Fierce competition for medical marijuana licenses

Of 43 applicants, only five will receive licenses to grow and dispense medical marijuana in New York state.

The winners were initially expected to be announced in mid-July by the state Department of Health and now are expected to be named July 31.

Maybe the waiting got to be too much.

Nature abhors a vacuum, with no news from the Health Department and little public information about the applicants, no wonder that innuendo filled the void.

Over the past few weeks, various publications across the state have run stories about some of the applicants, portraying the quest for a license as a cutthroat business. There is money to be made -- the Washington Post reported that in 2014, Colorado retailers sold $386 million worth of marijuana.
