Marijuana can be effective in treating pain and insomnia: Study

Cannabis can treat both pain and insomnia in people who want to avoid prescription and sleep medications, a study has found.

The study, published in the Journal of Psychoactive Drugs, looked at 1,000 people taking legalised marijuana in an American state.Researchers in the US found that among the 65 per cent of people taking cannabis for pain, 80 per cent found it was very or extremely helpful.

Eighty-two per cent of these people were able to reduce, or stop taking over the counter pain medications and 88 per cent were able to stop taking opioid painkillers.

The study suggested that cannabis could lower opioid use. However, the researchers noted that more needs to be done to understand the potential therapeutic benefits of cannabis.

What the vaping crisis teaches businesses about the importance of supply chains

How crucial are supply-chain protections? The answer could be traced to the ongoing vaping crisis.

The current public-health emergency has killed at least a dozen people and has hospitalized hundreds more. Aside from the human cost, the tragedy has also raised questions about many aspects of vaping, including its meteoric rise in popularity with young people, its lack of regulatory oversight, and its profitable existence in illicit markets.

More importantly, for any business in any industry, this crisis also highlights the need for ensuring the integrity of supply chains.

How CBD keeps THC in check

Many people who use cannabis do it for the euphoric effects caused by the main psychoactive ingredient, tetrahydrocannabinol, often called THC. But THC can also cause unpleasant side effects like paranoia, dissociative thoughts, impaired memory or even psychotic episodes. As cannabis has become more potent, it is becoming more likely that some users will experience those effects. But another compound present in the plant, the non-psychoactive cannabidiol, actually works against THC and can block those negative effects.

In order for a substance or method to be added to WADA’s ban list, it needs to meet at least two of the following three criteria:

Why THCV might be the next big thing in weed

2019 has the potential to be remembered as the year when minor cannabinoids really hit the scene. While it's true that the cannabis market is generally interested in tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the intoxicating cannabinoid that most marijuana consumers have come to know and love; as well as cannabidiol (CBD); but cannabinoids such as cannabinol (CBN), tetrahydrocannabinolic acid (THCA), along with cannabigerol (CBG) have started to attract attention on their own.

This is the top marijuana stock to buy in October

For years, marijuana stocks have been virtually unstoppable, and investors who had the stomach and wherewithal to stick with the still-nascent industry were handsomely rewarded.

However, the past six months have not been kind to cannabis stocks. Since the end of March, and through the previous weekend, the Horizons Marijuana Life Sciences ETF, the first exchange-traded fund to focus on cannabis, had declined by 35% -- and that includes dividend payouts.

Arthritis Foundation releases CBD guide

The Arthritis Foundation says it recently consulted leading arthritis and CBD experts to find out what arthritis sufferers should know about cannabidiol in order to create a guide, which has just been released.

According to the Foundation, more than 50 million Americans have arthritis, so it affects a significant chunk of the USA’s population. Cannabidiol has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties in animals and therefore may be useful in treating the condition, which comes in various forms. However, there have been no rigorous clinical studies in human arthritis sufferers to confirm this.
