Police destroy massive marijuana operation in northern Mexico

Federal police seized and destroyed 300 tons of marijuana in Balleza, a Mexican city in the northern state of Chihuahua, according to an EFE report.

“The plantations were spread out over a surface of approximately 94,629 sq. meters (23 acres), with a density of seven plants per square meter. The approximate weight of the 662,000 plants reached 300,000 kilos,” the Mexican National Security Commission said.

The marijuana “plantations” were discovered during police surveillance flights around Balleza and the plants were “pulled up by the roots so they could later be incinerated,” according to the National Security Commission.

DENVER -- 20,000 marijuana plants, 700 pounds of dried weed and more than 30 guns, all found right out in the open.

The busts started Aug. 19 and spanned the state of Colorado as listed below. Six of them took place through Thursday.

Pike National Forest, Aug. 19 in the Green Mountain Area in Jefferson County. Investigation is ongoing.

Marijuana bundle drops from sky, slams into family's carport

(AP)– Maya Donnelly awoke to what sounded like thunder in the early morning hours, but dismissed it as a typical monsoon storm and went back to sleep.

Later that morning, she looked in the carport at her home in Nogales, near the U.S.-Mexico border, and saw pieces of wood on the ground. She found a bulky bundle wrapped in black plastic.

Inside was roughly 26 pounds of marijuana — a package that authorities say was worth $10,000 and likely was dropped there accidentally by a drug smuggler’s aircraft.

“It’s all right on top of our dog’s house,” Donnelly said of the Sept. 8 incident, which was first reported by the Nogales International newspaper. “It just made a perfectly round hole through our carport.”

Possible censorship of Cannabis Magazine by Mexican authorities

As some already know last May was the first edition of the Mexican Hemp magazine, Cáñamo.

Well, the Ministry of the Interior of Mexico states that it has found several indications of crime in the publication, such as advocacy of marijuana, defending their therapeutic properties, incitement to self-cultivation and others.

As a result of this weight publication is the threat of censorship.

The magazine also has been referred to the prosecution for the crimes committed to assess any criminal acts.

A group of lawyers, senators and defenders of human rights is taking charge of our defense in the silence of the mainstream media.

If you disapprove of the practices to which we are subjected, spread the news and announcements they want to silence.

Winding Down the War on Drugs: Reevaluating Global Drug Policy

Any discussion about transnational organized crime almost inevitably includes the trade in illicit drugs. A 2011 analysis by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) found that illicit drugs constitute the largest income source for transnational crime, accounting for about half of transnational crime proceeds, and one-fifth of all crime proceeds. The UNODC has estimated the value of the 2003 global illicit drugs market to be US$322 billion— higher than the GDP that year of 88 percent of the world’s countries.

Law and Border

How many wars can we fight?

Our presidential candidates demand "stronger action" against both illegal immigration and illegal drugs. But those goals conflict. The War on Drugs makes border enforcement much harder!

America's 44-year-long Drug War hasn't made a dent in American drug use or the supply of illegal drugs. If it had some positive effect, prices of drugs would have increased, but they haven't. American authorities say drugs are more available than ever.

Drug prohibition, like alcohol prohibition, creates fat profits that invite law-breaking.
