Harford's disconnect over medical marijuana finds executive not worried, but sheriff and drug czar are

spite declaring war against heroin, Harford County Executive Barry Glassman is not concerned that the arrival of medical marijuana in Maryland will usher in a slippery slope for more cannabis use.

As a state senator last year, Glassman supported bills allowing medical marijuana and the decriminalization of small amounts of the drug.

That support puts him at odds with Harford County Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler and Joe Ryan, the county's Drug Control Policy Director, who have called the state's approval of medical pot a very bad idea.

Taskforce seizes $1.45M worth of marijuana from Eastern Shore property

Eastern Shore authorities seized more than 700 adult marijuana plants worth about $1.45 million from an abandoned property in Chesterville, Maryland.

The investigation into the property began in August. Officials said the plants, ranging between 6- and 10-feet tall, were weeks away from being harvested.

The 15-acre property located in the 3100 block of Chesterville Bridge Road was abandoned several years ago, according to a release provided by the Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Office. The property included one large home and several “outbuildings” that had been sitting vacant.

Authorities said the property was only visited occasionally by the family members who live in Delaware

Over $1 mil in marijuana plants seized in Queen Anne's County

CHESTERVILLE, Md. -

Investigators in Queen Anne's and Kent County say they have seized over a million dollars worth of marijuana from a farm in Chesterville.

The Maryland State Police say around mid-August, they found a possible outdoor marijuana growing operation on Chesterville Bridge Road, and started an investigation. MSP, along with the Queen Anne's County Drug Task force and the Kent County Narcotics Task Force, spearheaded the investigation. Investigators said they found that the 15 acre overgrown property had been abandoned several years ago, and included a large home that had been entirely covered in plywood, and several out-buildings. The property was apparently only occasionally visited by Delaware family members.

Opinion could shift debate from pot to zoning

Let's set aside for the moment the merits of legalized medical marijuana and the dueling zoning bills from County Executive Steve Schuh and Councilman Chris Trumbauer to ban it or regulate it.

Instead, consider the curious opinion from Assistant Attorney General Kathryn M. Rowe on whether Schuh's proposed ban is even legal under state law permitting the growth, distribution, sale and use of medicinal cannabis. In a 2,300-word advisory opinion requested by the chairman of the state Senate Judiciary Committee, Rowe reviewed the relevant legal precedents that spell out whether a county has the power to ban an activity specifically permitted by the state.

Maryland County Pleads to Encourage Medical Marijuana Growers to choose them

Communities across the state have been debating whether or not to allow growers of medical marijuana into their communities, and the discussions have been more or less enlightened, depending on where you live.

Kent and Washington counties support it, and Baltimore County has passed zoning laws for growing, processing and distributing. Anne Arundel County Executive Steve Schuh — as an example of one of the less enlightened — wants to ban it, even though the first specialty clinic with three consultants and three physicians opened in Annapolis in June, and by August had seen more than 100 prospective patients.

Schuh medical marijuana proposal would divide Maryland

Mr. Schuh cannot be permitted to succeed in his quest to continue the criminalization of Maryland's sick patients. Citizens across our state, in every jurisdiction, deserve access to helpful medication regardless of Mr. Schuh's adherence to a philosophy...

MD: Wicomico marijuana applicant to host town hall

Biocannatix LLC, based in Upper Marlboro, plans to host a town hall meeting Tuesday in Fruitland.

A fledgling medical marijuana business looking to grow, process and dispense its product in Wicomico County is taking its case to the public.

Biocannatix LLC, based in Upper Marlboro, plans to host a town hall meeting Tuesday in Fruitland. It has proposed building a warehouse near Hebron in which cannabis plants will be grown under lights and processed

To bolster its cause, the company has lined up a roster of speakers that includes Del. Cheryl Glenn, D-45-Baltimore City, one of the champions of the Free State’s new law; and Katherine Grimm, a marijuana industry consultant who has appeared on CNN’s series “High Profits.”
