City council voted Monday night to move project along after hearing from public

Passengers flying through a small airport in Prince George, B.C., may soon be able to buy cannabis for their carry-on.

Copilot, a cannabis company based in Langley, B.C., launched by two American-based entrepreneurs, is proposing to build what it calls the first cannabis store in the world to be located inside an airport terminal in the northern city.

On Monday night, Prince George city council voted unanimously for the project to pass its public hearing stage. It still requires final approval from the city, likely this spring.

Financial rewards will wait, but there’s optimism

Scott Atkinson, a 49-year-old Canadian who fought in Afghanistan and suffers from PTSD, recently became one of the first people to apply for MDMA treatment in Canada following a legal change that companies believe will make it easier to get psychedelic treatments.

Vancouver-based licensed producer THC Biomed has launched an edible that might just be the most affordable in the country.

In a news release, the company reported the full-spectrum biscuits, which are available in cinnamon or cocoa flavours, are currently the lowest priced edibles available through the OCS, the world’s largest cannabis supplier.

Old-school cannabis customers return to THC Canada

THC Canada started in the legacy market and has been on Vancouver’s Main Street since 2016. Now post-legalization, it’s one of the best-known licensed stores in the country.

“We’re one of the busiest stores in Canada. We like to say we’re one of the most legendary stores in Canada because of our storied past in the legacy market,” says Colin Bambury, head of marketing at THC Canada.

A lot of customers from the legacy days continue to shop in the store, he says—though there were some hiccups in the early years.

“When rec-legalization first took place, a lot of those customers were either coming in and being disappointed or not shopping with us for the first year or two,” he says.

The rezoning proposals passed through council on Jan. 24

Two rezoning proposals for a cannabis dispensary at Scottsdale Centre and a cannabis processing facility on Annacis Island, respectively, breezed through council on Jan. 24 with no discussion.

Both proposals received first and second reading and were then referred to public hearing.

The first proposal is a cannabis dispensary at Scottsdale Centre in North Delta.

The proposed site is located in close proximity to Save-On-Foods, Wal-Mart Supercentre and a B.C. Liquor Store and would only be accessible from the interior of the shopping centre, while remaining invisible from the building’s exterior aside from a sign at the mall entrance.

British Columbia has been a mecca for cannabis enthusiasts and growers long before the product became legal in Canada in 2018.

But the underground pillar of the province's economy hasn't flourished despite the hard-fought battle for legitimacy, industry advocates say.

Policy hurdles continue to strangle the life out of the dreams of small craft growers and squander the legacy of B.C. bud, said Marshall Anselmo of Grass Roots, a Vancouver Island company that markets exclusive strains of cannabis plants.

“There was a lot of hype, hopes and dreams,” said Anselmo, who helped showcase growers pre-legalization and farms cannabis with a medical licence.

“But that kind of took a pretty quick turn,” he said.

A cannabis dream come true!

Canada just got its first cannabis culinary facility, located in Vancouver, B.C., and they will have products in some stores soon!

The unique foodie concept was just opened up by a company called West Blvd Cannabis and it looks incredible already.

In an email to Narcity, the company confirmed that it is the first of its kind in Canada, and "the first cannabis manufacturing facility that the City of Vancouver has allowed."

To start, they will be offering infused culinary oils for anyone to make their own infused meals at home. They'll also have educational videos that you can follow along with, to learn the infused recipes.

BC Craft day-to-day operations will continue as it restructures its debt

BC Craft Supply Co. shares fell sharply on Wednesday after the Vancouver-based cannabis producer filed for protection from its creditors under Canada’s Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act. BC Craft Supply CRFTF CA:CRFT OTC shares fell 36% to trade at 20 cents on Wednesday. It’s the first Canadian cannabis company to file a notice of intention (NOI) to make a restructuring proposal in 2022, according to MJBiz Daily. The Vancouver-based company named Crow MacKay & Co. as trustee and said it would continue day-to-day operations.

BC Craft’s stock, traded on the OTC markets, traded down Wednesday more than 35% on the news. The company warned investors back in August of “significant doubts” that the company would be able to meet business obligations.

Time limit put on vacant cannabis stores by Vernon council

Cannabis stores can’t sit empty forever.

Licensed retail cannabis stores in Vernon that remain inactive for 24 months will now see their business licence lapse, after council passed the bylaw amendment Monday.

The change is intended to flush out stores that are “filling a spot,” said city staff.

Also, cannabis stores in the city will have to be 500 metres apart and 250 metres away from schools.

Mayor Victor Cumming’s motion for the downtown area to be exempt from the 500-metre rule did not pass.

“We really need to let the market do its thing,” argued Cumming.
