It has come to Health Canada’s attention that Creative Edge Nutrition, Inc. (CEN Biotech, Inc.) issued a February 19, 2015 Shareholder Update Statement which mischaracterizes the meaning of the Department’s recent action in respect of the application for a license to produce under the Marihuana for Medical Purposes Regulations (MMPR).

On February 13, 2015, Health Canada sent a "Notice of Intent to Refuse" to CEN Biotech in response to the license application. The MMPR requires that Health Canada give notice to any applicant to whom it intends to refuse a licence. The applicant is provided 20 days to provide written representations.

It is in the public interest to clarify Health Canada’s actions on this matter.

Two congressmen filed separate House bills on Friday that together would legalize, regulate and tax marijuana at the federal level, effectively ending the U.S. government's decadeslong prohibition of the plant.

Rep. Jared Polis (D-Colo.) introduced the Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol Act, which would remove marijuana from the Controlled Substances Act's schedules, transfer oversight of the substance from the Drug Enforcement Administration over to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and regulate marijuana in a way similar to how alcohol is currently regulated in the U.S.

Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.) introduced the Marijuana Tax Revenue Act, which would set up a federal excise tax for regulated marijuana.

Nearly three months after two heartland states sued Colorado in federal court, a Frisco dispensary is now at the epicenter of the first-ever racketeering lawsuit filed against a marijuana business since the advent of legal weed.

On Thursday, the Washington, D.C.-based advocacy group Safe Streets Alliance named Medical Marijuana of the Rockies as one of 12 defendants in a federal Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) case.

Safe Streets sponsored the lawsuit in partnership with co-plaintiff New Vision Hotels, the Colorado Springs company that owns the Frisco Holiday Inn.

Medical cannabis worker may be a new job in Minnesota, but the industry already has a union.

Minnesota's United Food and Commercial Workers chapter says it has organized workers at one of the state's two medical cannabis production facilities.

It's small at the moment. There are only a handful of employees at Minnesota Medical Solutions, the first facility expected to be up and running, said Bernie Hesse, organizer at the South St. Paul-based UFCW Local 1189.

"The UFCW has been working on this in multiple states," Hesse said. "We see a real potential for development, and I'll be using the word growth a lot, which people giggle about, but a lot of growth in this industry."

Forget the handful of states that have legalized the drug. There are 566 tribes currently mulling whether to sell pot.

Thanks to a clarifying memo from the Justice Department last October, Native American tribes can now decide for themselves whether to legalize, grow, process, or sell marijuana on their lands. Which means tribes are going to be in the “same situation” as states, says Salvador Mungia, a Tacoma-based lawyer who has represented the ACLU in recent Washington state marijuana cases. Just like a state can decide whether to allow medical marijuana, recreational marijuana, or both, Indian reservations can also choose to open a pot dispensary or grow fields of legalized weed on their lands.

Sources in the Niagara County Republican Party say that the Republican dominated Niagara Country Legislature may soon hop on board to sponsor a resolution in support of Niagara County being a location to grow medical marijuana under the New York State Compassionate Care Act.

The Republicans are expected to caucus on the issue shortly.

Support from local legislative bodies is a condition of the application process for companies that wish to grow medical marijuana in New York.

Money may be at the heart of the county decision to consider support for a hometown grower.

Counties where medical marijuana is grown in New York will get 22.5 percent of the state's seven percent excise tax charged for medical marijuana.

Cooper Wallace’s parents are desperately urging the Government to fast-track legalising the drug, to save their son and thousands more patients who claim to rely on cannabis.

Mernda couple Cassie Batten and Rhett Wallace have joined calls for an amnesty so they can avoid police prosecution until the Government changes the law later this year.
