Nationwide polls show that a slim majority of Americans want to legalize pot for any purpose. Seventy-five percent believe that marijuana legalization is inevitable, according to a Pew Research Center survey in 2014. However, few politicians on the national scene are actively leading the fight to make marijuana legal in their home states or at the federal level.

Most political support is for limited medical use. Others have done their part for the cannabis cause by supporting rules to require the federal government not prosecute individuals using marijuana per their state's rules. A Chicago-based startup said it has developed a system that will allow legal cannabis retailers to sell their products without taking cash or making a standard debit card or credit card transaction.

According to Bill Drevant, president of VertePay.com, the company has partnered with an established Illinois software firm called Bestinc that writes software platforms for check cashing and has been open since 1982. The firm modified the software to create an essentially closed loop system that will allow a cannabis customer to purchase cannabis without having to use cash or make a transaction with a bank card.

A medical marijuana company has job opportunities budding in Moncton.

OrganiGram Holdings Inc. is a licensed marijuana grower in Moncton, New Brunswick. They are the only company of their kind east of Ottawa and employ almost 30 people.

CEO Denis Arsenault says that their success is due in part to the company’s all organic policy. “We feel very comfortable that at the end of the day in terms of the quality of the product in term of the user experience, we’ll be superior with an organic product,” said Arsenault.

Since opening in March of 2014, the company has been growing. They recently moved into a larger location and are looking to almost double their staff.

SPANISH FORK, Utah – This Mormon mother, Tenille Farr, was diagnosed with state-2 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma when she was pregnant with her fifth child, Gabe.

Instead of going through chemotherapy and risking losing her baby, she left her family to treat naturally treat her cancer in Colorado and California where medical cannabis is legal.

Two Norwegian teenagers have been arrested for bringing Easter cakes with massive doses of marijuana inside to school. Three teachers suffered from food poisoning and sought medical help.

The “joke” was revealed when several teachers and other employees of Lier Upper Secondary School experienced symptoms of a mysterious illness and found themselves having difficulty remaining on their feet, local media reported.

SPRINGFIELD – Illinois approved about 400 new patient applications for medical marijuana during March, bringing the total to 2,000 patients with complete paperwork.

The Illinois Department of Public Health released the updated numbers Wednesday.

The health department said about 19,500 people have started the patient registration process. Of those, about 2,700 have submitted at least part of the application.

The tally is still far short of the number of patients the program’s coordinator hoped would enroll in the first year. In July, program coordinator Bob Morgan said “thousands, hopefully tens of thousands” were expected to enroll.

Qualifying patients pay an annual fee of $100 for a marijuana card and need a doctor’s written certification.
