Can CBD help ease your dog’s epilepsy symptoms?

Seizure treatment was one of the first and most well-documented areas of cannabis medical research conducted on humans. The only use of CBD approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, in fact, is Epidiolex, which is used for treating epileptic seizures.

So it’s only logical that epilepsy was one of the first conditions researched when veterinarians began exploring the effects that cannabis may have on man’s best friend.

A 2019 study published in the journal Pet Behavior Science showed that CBD treatment might be able to help dogs suffering from the symptoms of epilepsy, including seizures.

CBD Oil for Shingles: Relief from Pain

Though CBD can’t really cure shingles (herpes zoster), there is evidence suggesting that it can alleviate nerve pain associated with the disease.

A large percentage of shingles sufferers develop postherpetic neuralgia (PHN), a painful debilitating condition resulting from the damage of peripheral nerves caused by the viral rash.

Pain caused by postherpetic neuralgia can last anywhere from several months to several years for some people.

We’re going to go over the studies pointing to the beneficialness of CBD for various types of pain, primarily neuropathic (caused by damaged nerves) pain, which is extremely difficult to treat.

Here’s How Cannabinoids Quell Anxiety

Cannabis has powerful anxiolytic (anti-anxiety) properties, and when administered as-needed, can provide relief from several anxiety disorders.

Anxiety, like marijuana, comes with a stigma, but with the increasing impact of anxiety disorders on family life and the economy, it’s no wonder everyone seems to be looking for a salve.

The relationship between cannabis and anxiety disorders exists, but remains wholly misunderstood. Anxiety presents differently in every patient, and there is no definitive cure with conventional drugs, so just imagine something as variant as the cannabis plant.

Researchers Say Newly Developed Cannabis Strains May Prevent COVID-19 Infections

Canadian scientists think they may have found a new way to prevent and slow COVID-19 with cannabis. But it’s not just any cannabis. Researchers at the University of Lethbridge in Alberta believe that they have developed particular strains of the plant that work to keep coronavirus from binding to cells and causing illness.

In a not yet peer-reviewed paper published in Preprints, the authors wrote, “The extracts of our most successful and novel high CBD C. sativa lines, pending further investigation, may become a useful and safe addition to the treatment of COVID-19 as an adjunct therapy.”

Early morning fire destroys part of marijuana facility in St. Catharines

A fire at a greenhouse facility that produces medical marijuana kept St. Catharines firefighters busy early Wednesday.

The fire destroyed a barn, but firefighters saved the attached greenhouse and its contents, Deputy Chief Dave Upper said.

The call about a working fire at 376 Read Rd. on the east side of the Welland Canal came in at 1 a.m.

"When the crews arrived, they were presented with a significantly large fire," Upper said. "They immediately set up defensive operations, and crews worked through the night to get the fire under control."

Fire prevention officers were at the scene later in the day working on damage estimates. The Office of the Fire Marshal was notified, but won't be attending.

Marijuana could prevent catching COVID-19, according to one Canadian university's studies

Marijuana's already looked to as a way to prevent boredom right now, but Canada's University of Lethbridge is studying how it might be effective in preventing COVID-19.

Working with a cannabis therapy research company Pathway RX and the cannabinoid research and development company Sywsh, researchers at the Canadian university have studied over 400 strains of marijuana. The conclusion? At least a dozen strains have shown promise in preventing the virus from latching onto a host in someone's mouth, intestines, and lungs.

Epilepsy, cannabis and the newest research

With the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) citing that epilepsy affects over 3.4 million Americans, identifying a key function in the disease’s ability to target certain parts of the body may give researchers key insight into understanding how and why epilepsy occurs.

In a new study published in the Annals of Neurology, researchers found that an autoantibody, which works against the body, seems to be responsible for causing epilepsy in some patients. While examining encephalitis (inflammation of the brain) and its effect on the brain, researchers at the University of Bonn in Germany found that a few distinct patterns of epilepsy included inflammation inside the brain, leading them to find evidence of epilepsy’s effect on brain activity and functionality.

Not Just for Getting High – The Underreported Medical Uses of THC

THC, the psychoactive compound in cannabis, has a pretty bad reputation and it’s the reason why cannabis continues to be illegal in most of the world to this day.

Contrary to popular belief, however, THC does a lot more for the body and mind than just getting us stoned (although that’s certainly another plus side). It actually has numerous therapeutic uses – including benefits for the brain, digestive system, and more. Benefits that are often hard to come by with other natural remedies.
