Rand Paul, Advocate for Legalized Marijuana, Running for President

Paul wants a much smaller federal government that does much less — and he's laid out a detailed plan for what this would look like. On foreign policy, he wants to be far more cautious about using the military abroad — a challenge to his party's orthodoxy. He wants to reform our criminal justice system's sentencing and drug laws. And he strongly opposes abortion and supports gun rights.

Though he's been in the Senate only four years, Paul has managed to place himself at the center of many policy debates — and his candidacy should lead to a substantive, issue-focused debate on where this country should go.

Advocates Concerned New York Medical Marijuana Rules Omit Approval For PTSD Treatment

WATERTOWN — Some veterans and advocates say New York’s newly approved medical marijuana rules have left a gap by not allowing medical professionals to provide treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder.

The newly finalized state regulations allow medical marijuana in non-smokable forms to treat “debilitating or life-threatening conditions” such as cancer, HIV/AIDS and Parkinson’s disease, but not PTSD, experienced by many in the military.

Robert P. Loughhead, veterans outreach coordinator at the Vets Peer to Peer Outreach Center on State Street, said he’s heard more feedback from north country veterans in favor of opening access.

“They don’t like the other medications they get from the VA,” he said. “People don’t want to lose all of their emotions.”

Israeli Study: CBD From Cannabis Enhances Skeletal Healing

The administration of the non-psychotropic cannabinoid cannabidiol (CBD) leads to improvement in bone fracture healing, according to preclinical data published online ahead of print in the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research.

Investigators at the Hebrew University Bone Laboratory in Israel assessed the ability of CBD administration to promote healing in rats with mid-femoral fractures. Researchers reported, “CBD markedly enhanced the biomechanical properties of the healing femora after 8 weeks.”

AZ Supreme Court: Probationers Can't Be Denied Medical Marijuana

PHOENIX — The right of patients to smoke marijuana recommended by a doctor for medical conditions cannot be taken away by a judge, even if the person has been convicted of a crime, the Arizona Supreme Court ruled Tuesday.

In a pair of unanimous decisions, the justices rejected arguments by prosecutors in two separate cases that denying someone the ability to use medical marijuana is a legitimate condition for probation. Justice Ann Scott Timmer, writing one of the rulings, said that ignores the wishes of voters when they approved the Arizona Medical Marijuana Act in 2010.

Justice Rebecca Berch, writing the other, not only reached the same conclusion but rejected arguments by Cochise County prosecutors that federal marijuana laws preempt what voters enacted.

New Law Clarifies Medical Marijuana Insurance Requirements

Workers’ compensation carriers and self-insurers will not be required to pay for a patient’s medical marijuana under a new bill Gov. Doug Ducey signed into law Monday.

The state’s more than 63,000 holders of medical marijuana cards will still be allowed to purchase their own cannabis, but the law removes the requirement that workers’ compensation carriers and self-insurers reimburse patients for medical marijuana.

The law is similar to protections already in place for federal and private insurers under the Arizona Medical Marijuana Act.

Washington Is the Only State with Legal Marijuana That Doesn't Allow Home Grows

But That Could Change—If You Care About This Issue, Contact These Representatives in Olympia Right Now

few years ago, my friends Monica and Nate got ahold of a few marijuana cuttings, also known as "clones," and planted them in their backyards. Neither of their plants grew into the towering, gawky, bamboo-like stalks you see in stock news photos of professional marijuana grows. Monica pruned hers to grow smaller and bushier, less conspicuous, almost ornamental—the bonsai of marijuana. They were stupidly easy to grow, both said, no more difficult than tomatoes or basil. One year, the wind knocked over Monica's pot planters, breaking one and crunching lots of the stems—but they hurtled back to life.
