'Prince of Pot' website recommends marijuana for pregnant women

VANCOUVER — Marc Emery's online magazine, Cannabis Culture, encourages marijuana use during pregnancy for relief of nausea, loss of appetite and to help get emotions under control.

"Most studies say cannabis is perfectly safe during pregnancy, but it's controversial, of course," said Jodie Emery, Marc's wife, a well-known marijuana activist who failed in her attempt to run for the Liberal Party.

In an online article, Dr. Kathy Galbraith, known as "Dr. Kate," writes: "Pot can be safely used during pregnancy, and can help with several of the discomforts/problems associated therewith.

Shawn DeNae: The Exhausting Work of A Cannabis Business Advocate

Advocating for cannabis reform is energy consuming business.  I’m tired and I’m not alone.

When I became involved in late 2010, I fed off the intense enthusiasm and passion of the cannabis community.  There was a huge push to get an medical marijuana bill passed and via a miracle, SB5073 passed both the House and Senate in April 2011 and went to the Governor’s office where it was gutted and we have been fighting to regain ground ever since.

Washinton Medical Marijuana Regulation One Step From Inslee's Desk

It appears the days are numbered for Washington’s sprawling and largely unregulated medical marijuana marketplace.

Both the state House and Senate have now approved measures to roll medical cannabis into Washington’s recreational pot system. That means big changes ahead for marijuana patients.

Today, a medical patient might go to their corner or local dispensary. If the bill goes into effect, that patient would go into a recreational store that is dual licensed. There might also be stand-along medical marijuana specialty clinics, but the sort-of ubiquitous green cross stores basically go away under this system.

Marijuana Extract May Reduce Seizure Frequency In Children With Severe Epilepsy

While not everyone has warmed to the idea of treating medical conditions with marijuana, research continues to emerge supporting its benefits. This applies the most, perhaps, to children with severe conditions, who may benefit just as much as adults from medical marijuana treatment — even as concerns about its effects on their developing minds and bodies arise. But a new study shows how marijuana might still be used to treat children (and adults) with untreatable epilepsy, safely and without the drug’s typical effects.

High Times editor: ‘Colorado cannabis industry is an economic miracle’

High Times magazine’s New York-rooted editor-in-chief Dan Skye has spent plenty of time in Colorado researching and photographing the state’s medical and recreational systems, but his current, pre-Cannabis Cup trip to the state has been uncommonly eye-opening.

“The Colorado cannabis industry is an economic miracle,” Skye said Monday from a stop in Pueblo, where he’s meeting cannabis business owners and reporting on the state’s first-of-its-kind legalization. “Everyone in the United States is following Colorado’s lead.”

Stamford zoning officials mull medical marijuana sites

STAMFORD — Stamford zoning officials are considering whether to establish medical marijuana factories and dispensaries in some neighborhoods.

The Stamford Advocate reports the Zoning Board has begun crafting a proposal to allow the facilities in some parts of Stamford.

New regulations are still a ways off, with a public hearing likely in a month or two.

Factories and dispensaries must apply to the state Department of Consumer Protection for operating permits.

The General Assembly legalized medical marijuana in 2012. The first dispensary in the state opened in South Windsor in August. The state consumer protection agency says six dispensaries and four factories operate in Connecticut.

Medical marijuana prescription challenged by dead man's family

A New Brunswick family has some tough questions over the prescribing and use of medical marijuana. They believe it may have played a part in the death of a husband and father.

Steve Saunders of Fredericton was prescribed medical marijuana to help him cope with an old shoulder injury and they claim that under its influence he became manic.

He lost control of his life, drove away family and friends, emptied his savings and eventually killed himself.

In March 2014, Saunders was given a one-year prescription for 10 grams a day of medical marijuana, enough for about 16 joints. He started taking the marijuana the following month.

Legalise cannabis and ecstasy as medicines, expert tells Scots

WHITEHALL's former chief drug adviser has called for Scotland to legalise cannabis and ecstasy as medicines.

Professor David Nutt - sacked by the last UK Labour government after saying some drugs were less dangerous than alcohol and tobacco - has long campaigned for decriminalisation.

Now, with other campaigners, Prof Nutt wants to see the SNP use its Westminster influence after next month's general election to push through reform north of the border on cannabis and MDMA, the scientific name of ecstasy.
