Marijuana could treat PTSD under new legislation

× Marijuana could treat PTSD under new legislation

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (May 30, 2015) — Post-traumatic stress disorder would be considered a debilitating illness that can be treated with medically prescribed marijuana under legislation headed to Gov. Bruce Rauner.

The House approved state Rep. Lou Lang’s measure 68-36 on Saturday. The Skokie Democrat says marijuana can help people suffering from PTSD.

PTSD is a mental health condition triggered by a terrifying event that a person experiences or witnesses. There has been a lot of attention to it in the past decade because troops in combat are susceptible.

One simple fact explains why alcohol is more addictive than cannabis. Listen to Alan Watts embarrass our culture’s understanding of drugs and addiction

The United States is a young nation, which means in a world that largely misunderstands drugs and addiction, our immature approach to drugs both culturally and politically is severely stunted.

In this 40 minute lecture, Alan Watts, famed philosopher and hallmark spiritual guru, covers everything from drugs to addiction and back again, and he doesn’t miss a beat.

It turns out there’s one definitive reason why alcohol is more addictive than cannabis and — get this — LSD, too. The truth behind drugs and addiction isn’t hard to understand, it’s just a matter of spreading knowledge that will open eyes and ears.

Medical Marijuana Grower Eyes Old Depot

The Town of Romulus Board meeting provided a letter of support to a medical company looking to grow marijuana on 20 acres of the old Seneca Army Depot. Mike Palombo, Director of Research and Development for Civita Medical, a research and development company with property in the former Army Depot, gave the introduction. The property is located near Seneca Bio-energy; it would be all fenced in and secure with employee parking as part of Phase I.

Civita bought property in the Depot in 2014. Palombo reminded the public that the Governor Cuomo’s office has approved legislation for medical marijuana, and said the company was seeking one of five New York State licenses to grow medical marijuana.

Psychoactive substances ban 'will end brain research in Britain', experts warn

Drug researchers have warned that a bill to ban the sale of all psychoactive substances will be disastrous for brain research in the UK.

The Home Office bill, outlined in the Queen’s speech, would ban trade in “any substance intended for human consumption that is capable of producing a psychoactive effect”.

Ministers hope to shut down the emergence of new legal highs, which have been blamed for a number of deaths in recent years. But scientists warned that the measure could pre-emptively ban a number of potentially useful new substances.

Study: New Cannabinoids Discovered

Ole Miss is at again. With their research-grade cannabis finally up to par with that of dispensaries, the weed scientists at the University of Mississippi have taken full advantage of the potent pot: seven new naturally occurring cannabinoids have been discovered.

Depending on the genetic makeup of a strain of cannabis, the resinous trichomes of female plants will produce mainly THC or CBD, with high CBG detected in few European hemp samples. Whether a plant has high THC or CBD, a diverse slew of minor cannabinoids always top off the mixture.

Mixing Alcohol and Pot Greatly Increases the Amount of THC in Your Blood

That poses serious questions for road safety

Although marijuana and alcohol are frequently used together, there has been little research into how the two substances react. A new study reported on in Science Daily, however, shows that when they are mixed the amount of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) — marijuana’s active ingredient — in a person’s blood is far higher than if marijuana is smoked on its own.

Because the combination of alcohol and cannabis is the most common one detected in car accidents, the research looked at the two drugs from the point of view of vehicle safety.
