Medical Marijuana Bill for Children Dies in Legislature

Some Connecticut families say they're running out of options after a bill that would allow children to use medical marijuana died in the legislature.

Seven-year-old West Tarricone is full of energy as she plays with her twin brother, Blake, but hundreds of times a day, seizures stop her in her tracks.

Family Wants Medical Marijuana for Kids

"Her seizures are at the point now where she stops breathing. We have oxygen now," said West's and Blake's mom Cara Tarricone.

West was diagnosed with West Syndrome, a type of epilepsy, at just 11 months. Since then she's been in and out of the hospital and currently takes up to 18 pills a day, though her parents say it does little to help.

Ukiah tribe downsizes plans for marijuana farm

A Ukiah tribe has downsized its plans for a medical marijuana farm, at least for now, as it continues to explore what will and won’t be tolerated by law enforcement officials.

The Pinoleville Pomo Nation’s initial plan, backed by a Kansas investment company that funds tribal economic projects like casinos and now marijuana operations, called for a $10 million pot-growing operation in multiple greenhouses spanning some 110,000 square feet on the tribe’s rancheria just north of Ukiah.

5 Studies that show Cannabis can help treat Parkinson’s

One of the most common and perhaps heartbreaking degenerative disorders in the world today, Parkinson’s Disease is a disorder of the central nervous system as a result of the death of dopamine generating cells in regions of the brain.

One of the reasons as to why Parkinson’s is considered such a selfish, agonising disease may be down to its lack of answers. There is no known reason as to why the cells degenerate and no definitive cure to the disease itself.

However, despite its relentless nature as a degenerative disease, there are ways in which the side effects of Parkinson’s can be managed. Over the past 30 years, research into the medicinal benefits of marijuana on Parkinson’s have provided some fascinating conclusions:

A New Tool to Tackle Neurological Disorders

In a world first, neuroscientists at Flinders University have identified a series of chemical tools that can either increase or inhibit the release of neurotransmitters by neurons, the cells of the brain.

While not yet applied to a specific disease, the discovery has a wide range of potential pharmaceutical applications in neurological conditions ranging from schizophrenia to depression.

A team led by Associate Professor Damien Keating, a National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Research Fellow in the Department of Human Physiology and the Centre for Neuroscience at Flinders, has published a paper on the action of a protein called dynamin in the latest issue of the prestigious journal Molecular Psychiatry.

Firm's arrival in Minnesota stirs fear of clinics-for-hire in getting medical marijuana

A New York company is putting down roots in Minnesota by building up a network of doctors and clinics to put patients in line for medical marijuana — a business model that state officials had hoped to avoid.

MarijuanaDoctors.com is coordinating with doctors in Minnesota to set up clinics designed to give patients the sign-off required to register with the state to buy the new medicine. The first clinic, in Bloomington, filed its business registration forms this week. The company's chief operating officer, John Nicolazzo, said three others will get started on Monday, with a dozen total planned.

What marijuana really does to your brain

Opponents of legal cannabis say it leaves you fried, but research shows it can actually improve your mental health.

Those opposed to marijuana sometimes argue that the substance fries your brain, but new research published earlier this year in the Journal of Neuroscience found that marijuana does not kill brain cells. In fact, marijuana can actually have a positive impact on a person’s mental health, as ATTN: has noted before.
