Scientists separate medical benefits of cannabis from 'unwanted'

These findings reveal how the cognitive effects of THC are triggered by a pathway which is separate from some of its other effects.

Scientists at the University of East Anglia in collaboration with the University Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona have found a way to separate the medical benefits of cannabis from its unwanted side effects.

The research comes from the team that discovered how the main psychoactive ingredient in cannabis, known as THC, reduces tumour growth in cancer patients.

Their latest findings, published today in the journal PLOS Biology, reveal how the cognitive effects of THC are triggered by a pathway which is separate from some of its other effects.

The research study found that the studied rats treated with CBD experienced a reduction in two types of cytokines, known as Tp and Th2. Pot Pill May Bridge Gap Between Marijuana And Medicine

BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4) – A Boulder marijuana company says it has a new breakthrough for medical marijuana patients — a marijuana capsule that looks and acts more like traditional pharmaceuticals.

Wana Brands says it now has an alternative to smoking or edible marijuana called Wana Caps.

“We feel like we are making an important step in giving patients another alternative in consuming cannabis,” said Wana Brands owner John Whiteman.

The marijuana maker worked with Cannabics, a pharmaceutical company based in Israel, to develop the first extended release formula to make marijuana last up to 12 hours. The capsules are filled twice — first with a dose that kicks in almost immediately, and then with a dose that starts to work after about four hours.

Play for Medical Marijuana License Personal for Wayne County CEO

A Wayne County company is among 46 aiming at opening production and distribution facilities across the region. Bill Carey says the people behind the plans say they could change the face of medicine.

No exact date and times have been set, but a series of decisions by state health officials are expected by months' end on where companies will be allowed to set up to grow, develop and sell medical marijuana.

Various groups have been pressing for the development of the drug. This year, the support finally crystallized behind a plan.

"The medical marijuana law, as enacted in New York state, and signed by Governor Cuomo, is highly restrictive compared to laws in other parts of our nation," said Mark Doherty, CEO of Butler Evergreen.

Should Canada Take a Public Health Approach to Cannabis Legalization?

One of the most popular topics on the 2015 elections agenda is legalization and cannabis is by far the most widely used illegal drug in the Canada. The interplay between potential legalization models and our current federal medical cannabis system, the Marihuana for Medical Purposes Regulations (MMPR), is important because it will probably shape the direction legalization takes in Canada. Our federal system is unique globally and over one year later, has some important big name interests vested within.
