Are Time-Released Cannabis Pills the Future of Medical Marijuana?

Wana Brands, an edibles manufacturing company based in Boulder, Colorado, has created a line of cannabis capsules they've dubbed "Wana Caps" that could be big for medical marijuana patients. The goal was to offer an alternative consumption method to patients other than smoking or consuming edibles.

In Canada, Parents Vow To Give Their Sick Children Medical Marijuana — Even If Doctors Won't

For years, Sarah Wilkinson woke up every day wondering if it would be her daughter's last.

When she was a baby, Mia was diagnosed with a form of epilepsy that caused her to suffer waves of intense seizures — sometimes up to 100 episodes in one day.

To make matters worse, the dozens of pills Mia's doctor had prescribed for her condition weren't working and she was miserable all the time.

"She sometimes had seizures that would last up to 23 hours and she would have to be put into a medically-induced coma," recalls Wilkinson, who lives with her family outside of Calgary, Alberta. "And whenever she would have a big seizure, my two sons would start panicking because she would be turning blue."

Washington state veterans form support group to promote medical pot

OLYMPIA, Wash. — Andrew Collins no longer has a cocktail of 17 prescriptions coursing through his body.

The Army combat veteran stared death in the face while serving two tours of Iraq in the 2000s. He now battles post-traumatic stress disorder as a result of his wartime experiences.

The Olympia veteran has tried medications, meditation and hypnosis while adapting to the stresses of life in the civilian world. But more than any other treatment, Collins says marijuana has helped him cope with the psychological trauma he carries around — trauma that at times has filled his head with aggression and suicidal thoughts.

“I smoke a joint and the thoughts are gone,” said Collins, 30.

Was Big Pharma Behind Colorado's Rejection of Medical Marijuana for PTSD?

Washington's voters legalized recreational marijuana the same day that Colorado's did, but so far that state has been far behind Colorado in creating the infrastructure for the new industry.

Far behind in most ways, that is: Last week the Colorado Board of Health again rejected adding Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder to the list of conditions for which medical marijuana can be prescribed, but Washington will be approving PTSD on July 24.

Hamp case gave oxycodone a bad name, say doctors

The high-profile arrest of former Toyota Motor Corp. executive Julie Hamp last month over importing oxycodone might fuel prejudice in Japan against the narcotic painkillers and other strong pain-relieving drugs, experts fear.

Hamp, the automaker’s first female managing officer, was released by police without charge July 8 after spending 20 days in detention. She was arrested June 18 on suspicion of violating Japan’s drug laws after she reportedly had her father in the U.S. ship her 57 tablets of the powerful prescription drug hidden in jewelry boxes.

It is illegal to import oxycodone into Japan without a prescription and prior permission from Japan’s health ministry.

The inmates were overcome with the same symptoms, which included vomiting, sudden agitation, hallucinations and going into a catatonic state, officials said. At least two inmates admitted they had ingested the synthetic drug.

Vitamin Weed? How Small, Daily Doses Of Cannabis Could Unlock Optimum Health

A while back a friend and I got into a bit of a debate about marijuana “tolerance breaks.” He and I are both heavy users who enjoy high-potency cannabis concentrates and he was advocating complete cold-turkey cessation for multiple days in order to reduce tolerance and more easily feel the effects. He insisted they were necessary while I balked at the notion that anyone would ever stop using cannabis for any reason.

My reaction was partially rooted in my long-time recreational cannabis use and love of civil disobedience. It was also due to my subjective experience as someone who likely suffers from something called clinical endocannabinoid deficiency.
