I hate cancer. I know several people that are battling cancer, and it’s painful to watch those strong people go through it. I can’t even imagine what it’s like. Anything that helps battle cancer should be put to good use, which includes a healthy regimen of cannabis consumption. The results of a study were released this week that suggest that consuming cannabis can significantly lower the risk of developing bladder cancer. Per the Daily Caller:

Vietnam vet with cancer denied pain medication after testing positive for marijuana

TOPEKA (KSNT) — A nationwide argument between the veterans’ administration and groups which represent the rights of veterans emerged in Topeka Tuesday.

That issue is whether veterans should be denied prescription medications because they use marijuana for physical or emotional pain even in states which allow medical marijuana use.

We found out about it when a Vietnam veteran contacted KSNT News.

“I went in to get a refill on my pain medication and they refused to let me have it, because I have marijuana in my blood,” Gary Dixon, Vietnam veteran.

Gary Dixon is a 65-year-old disabled Vietnam veteran. While in Vietnam he was exposed to Agent Orange.

DOES CANNABIS HELP STROKE VICTIMS

Each year, nearly 800,000 people in the United States — most of whom are over 65 years old — suffer a stroke, which is a rapid loss of brain function resulting from a blockage of blood supply. Globally, it is estimated that 15 million people suffer the condition. Of those who suffer strokes, about 140,000 (or 18 percent) die. About 25 percent of stroke victims are under 65 years of age.

Leading causes of strokes include high blood pressure, atherosclerosis, a weak heart, and simply the accumulated wear and tear of age. For those who survive a stroke, symptoms include difficulty speaking or full loss of speech, memory impairments, motor (movement) issues, challenges in writing, and even changes in personality.

Here’s Why We Hear So Many False Claims About Cannabis

As a neuropsychopharmacologist at Imperial College London, I study the impact of drug use on the brain. Like many scientists studying these issues, the results I detect in my lab have direct implications on how we can better equip ourselves as a society to deal with drugs.

Victoria GP aims to challenge some of the stigma around medical marijuana

Medical marijuana can be an effective medication when it is properly prescribed. That's the message a B.C. doctor will be giving his fellow physicians on a cross-country speaking tour this month.

Dr. Dave Hepburn, a general practitioner based in Victoria, told On the Island host Gregor Craigie that he will give talks in B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario and Nova Scotia over a five-week period.

How to Enlist Doctors in Healthcare Content Creation

When you work in healthcare marketing, you know you’ve got a big team of experts right there in the building who are carrying around valuable knowledge that could be turned into great content. But they (understandably) have other priorities.

Doctors are busy. At the end of a long day (or night) of attending to patients and helping ward off illness and death, they don’t have a lot of leftover time or energy. On the one hand, you know your inbound marketing efforts would be much stronger if you could get the medical professionals at your hospital involved in content creation. On the other, you know how hard it can be on them to commit to one more thing.

Cleaveland: Researcher makes the case for use of medical marijuana

Marijuana is the popular name for cannabis, a plant genus that contains three species. Although often highlighted for its controversial use as a recreational drug, cannabis has drawn increasing attention in recent years for its use in a variety of medical conditions.

Cannabis is chemically complex, containing more than 85 substances (cannabinols) that have biological effects. One cannabinol, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), stimulates specific receptors in the brain to cause a range of effects, including euphoria. THC is the major factor in the recreational use of cannabis; the other cannabinoids have no known psychoactive effects but have been increasingly used in the treatment of disease.
