Everyone wants to get in on the marijuana business. States are making it legal and business is booming. Many entrepreneurial ventures can be started from merchandise to accessories to marijuana itself; many millionaires will be minted. Founders Fund, a major institutional funding company, and Privateer Holdings have invested in a Canadian medical growing facility, Leafly, and Marley Natural which grows recreational strains branded with Bob Marley’s name. MedMen marijuana (operational) consulting firm raised over $3.7 million from large institutional investors. British pharmaceutical giant GW has marijuana stock available as an investment opportunity.

NY Health Department sponsoring medical cannabis drug study

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York's Department of Health is sponsoring research on the use of a pharmaceutical-grade medical cannabis drug to treat children with severe epilepsy.

The department announced the studies Wednesday. They'll be open to 100 children and young adults whose epilepsy has resisted other treatments.

The drug, known as Epidiolex, is not yet FDA approved but is the subject of ongoing drug trials. It will be available free of charge to qualifying patients.

The five medical centers participating in the studies are Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, Women & Children's Hospital of Buffalo, New York Langone Medical Center, Mount Sinai Beth Israel and the University of Rochester Medical Center.

Israeli Study On THC Shows Great Promise With Treating Alzheimer’s

There is some hopeful news on the horizon for those suffering with Alzheimer’s disease. A new study has come out of Tel Aviv University about the promising effects of THC on Alzheimer’s, the all too-common, debilitating, degenerative disease. The researchers went so far as to call it a “potential treatment.” THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is the psychoactive component found in cannabis and can slow the production of beta-amyloid proteins, thought to be a hallmark characteristic and key contributor to the progression of Alzheimer’s.

This breakthrough, gives whole new meaning to the whole “this is your brain on drugs” campaign.

RANCHO CUCAMONGA: Conference examines marijuana as treatment for autism

The video was unsettling.

It showed Adrian Coombs, a 4-year-old with autism, agitated, crying, pacing frantically, his face contorted in anguish.

At various points Adrian would repeatedly punch himself in the head, slap his cheek or wipe his eyes.

Adrian is the son of Nathan and Maria Coombs, founders of The Autism & Compassionate Care Connection, sponsors of the Cannabis for Autism conference in Rancho Cucamonga on Saturday, Jan. 23.

About 40 people, the vast majority family members of an autistic child, attended the event at the Victoria Gardens Cultural Center.

For many in attendance, the images were a little less jarring, because they were part of their everyday lives.
