Canada: Canopy Growth Moving Into Brazil's Pot Market

Canopy Growth Corp., the largest of Canada's publicly traded marijuana companies, is preparing to export its expertise through a new Brazilian partnership.

Canopy's Bedrocan subsidiary and its Brazilian partners have created a new company to import proprietary varieties of cannabis into Brazil — a country with a population of 200 million.

Initially, Bedrocan Brazil will import cannabis products into Brazil from Canada or the Netherlands.

Eventually, the company will establish domestic cultivation facilities in Brazil using Bedrocan's genetic material and cultivation technology.

The Canadian company will also partner with Sao Paulo-based Entourage Phytolab SA to develop medical cannabis products for the Brazilian and international markets.

Guam Medicinal Marijuana Regulations to Be Overhauled

After months of public input highlighting concerns about the proposed rules and regulations surrounding medical marijuana, it seems legislators are willing to throw the rules out entirely and start with a clean slate.

Sen. Tina Muña-Barnes said she will be complying with a recommendation to reject the rules and will be facilitating amendments to the enabling statute, the Joaquin “KC” Concepcion II Compassionate Cannabis Use Act of 2013.

Sen. Dennis Rodriguez, chairman of the legislative committee on health, stated in a release yesterday that he is recommending the rejection of the rules because they contain provisions outside of or in addition to statute.

Illinois Medical Marijuana Director Resigns

An attorney appointed last year by Gov. Bruce Rauner to lead the Illinois medical marijuana program has resigned to pursue work in the private sector.

Joseph Wright, 32, who was in the position for just over one year, told The Associated Press on Monday he felt the time was right to seek other opportunities, possibly in the medical cannabis industry.

A spokeswoman for the governor confirmed the resignation Monday. Spokeswoman Catherine Kelly told the AP the governor's office "will have no further comment" on the reasons for the resignation.

Availability of Medical Cannabis in Israel to Reach an All-time High

GW Pharma Marijuana Drug Confirms Seizure Benefit in Second Pivotal Trial

GW Pharmaceuticals (GWPH) announced positive results Monday from a second, pivotal clinical trial involving children with a severe form of epilepsy treated with its experimental marijuana-based drug.

Shares of GW Pharma are up 16% to $96.52 in Monday pre-market trading.

In the phase III study, treatment with the GW Pharma drug epidiolex resulted in a 44% reduction in monthly drop seizures compared to a 22% reduction for placebo. The difference was statistically significant.

Two Louisiana Universities Decided to Move Forward with Medical Marijuana

The Department of Agriculture and Forestry gave the necessary opportunity for Louisiana State University and Southern University first right of withholding and both institutions have expressed their interest in moving forward.

After their Friday meeting, Dr. Adell Brown, Southern's Interim Chancellor, stated that the institution has come up to a decision to submit a letter stating they will accept becoming the cultivator of Louisiana state, The Times reported.
