Cannabis Edibles Are Not Legal in Georgia

Maybe it caught your attention along I-75 south in Byron: a billboard advertising the sale of cannabis, also known as marijuana.

John Cater from Macon saw the YourCannabisOMS.com billboard. It’s an online marijuana dispensary.

“Edible Cannabis is legal in Georgia, that’s what the billboard says, so it must be true,” Cater said.

State Representative Allen Peake of Macon, who crafted Georgia's medical marijuana law, says that's not the case.

“I don’t know how they're saying that. I wrote the law, I know the law, and medical cannabis oil is the only form that you can legally possess in Georgia,” Peake said.

He says to legally possess it, you have to have one of eight medical conditions and register with the state.

Cannabis a Cure for Brain Cancer? New Zealand University to Study Cannabinoids' Effect

Is cannabis a cure for brain cancer?

Despite its high profile in the media as a potential agent, there's little scientific evidence to suggest whether it can actually make a difference.

With a just-awarded grant, and the unique advantage of having human brain cancer cells to study, a team of University of Auckland researchers hope to get to the bottom of the issue.

Associate Professor Michelle Glass said while preliminary studies examining the link had been interesting, there had been few to draw on so far.

"There are a lot of claims in the public sphere suggesting that cannabis is useful in all sorts of cancers, but the science not always supporting these claims."

Congress Passes Opioid Bill — While Entirely Ignoring New Studies Showing Cannabis Kills Pain

Congress is patting itself on the back after passing the Comprehensive Addiction & Recovery Act (CARA) and sending it to Obama’s desk. The “overwhelmingly bipartisan” bill is meant to address the opioid epidemic currently gripping the U.S.

It was an easy one for congressmen to brag about to their constituency, but the legislation is notable for its failure perhaps more so than its achievement. Namely, the failure to recognize medical cannabis as part of a viable alternative for treating chronic pain, and failure to call out the role of Big Pharma in getting the nation hooked on opioids.

Illinois: Number of Medical Marijuana Patients Doubles

Illinois’ medical marijuana pilot program had nearly 8,000 approved patients in early July, up from 4,000 patients at the beginning of the year according to the state Department of Public Health.

Lawmakers approved the pilot program in 2013 but legal cannabis sales to patients began Nov. 9, 2015.

Joe Friedman, co-owner of PDI Medical, a cannabis dispensary in suburban Buffalo Grove, said restrictive legislation slowed the growth of the program. “I think the program has been under a lot of pressure because we haven’t been able to approve new conditions, we definitely need to educate more patients and more doctors, but it’s a slow process.”

Medical marijuana experts say Illinois’ program needs 120,000 patients to support the industry.

How the Today Show Taught One Doctor Acceptance of Medical Cannabis

Dr Ross Walker may be one of the key players at MGC Pharma (ASX:MXC) – but he wasn’t always singing from the medical cannabis songsheet.

Reputed in Australia thanks to his media work, as little as 18 months ago he describes himself as “ignorant” of the benefits of medical cannabis.

He’s currently serving as a non-executive director at MXC – so it’s safe to say he’s seen the light.

MXC is currently pursuing a way to alleviate the pain of those suffering epilepsy using a cannabinoid (CBD)-based solution.

It is early stages yet and this is a young stock, so if considering your investment options please seek professional financial advice.
