War hero and double amputee pleads for cannabis to be legalized 'so I don't have to break the law'

An Afghanistan war hero who lost both legs in an bomb blast is forced to break the law to get cannabis to ease his pain.

Lance Corporal Callum Brown is now leading calls to legalise the drug for medical use. He wants to see cannabis made available to patients like him who suffer agonising pain 24 hours a day.

Callum, 28, also shattered his pelvis in the huge explosion after he stepped on a boobytrap bomb while on patrol in Helmand five years ago.

Speaking to the Daily Record, he said: “As well as my other injuries, I have no skin on my backside – it’s just thin scar tissue so the nerve damage and the phantom pains are the main reason for smoking.

New Halifax cannabis clinic hopes to be alternative to opioids

A new medical marijuana clinic will open its doors in Halifax later this summer, with its director hoping to offer an alternative to opioids and other pharmaceuticals.

"We want to be able to provide a really sound and thorough method so people will understand that there are very significant alternatives that they need to look at," says Kenny Lord, director of National Access Cannabis' Atlantic region.

Illinois Judge orders state to reconsider medical marijuana for migraines

In a ruling that could significantly expand the use of medical marijuana in Illinois, a judge has ordered state officials to reconsider adding migraine headaches to the list of conditions that qualify a patient to buy the drug.

Cook County Circuit Court Associate Judge Rita Novak overturned Illinois Department of Public Health Director Dr. Nirav Shah's denial of a petition to add migraines to that list.

The judge ordered Shah to reconsider evidence presented to the Medical Cannabis Advisory Board before its members voted to recommend approval of marijuana to treat migraines.

Medical Marijuana Could be Available in Florida Next Week

More than two years after being approved by Florida's Legislature, medical marijuana is expected to be available in the state by the end of next week.

On Wednesday, the Department of Health informed Trulieve and Hackney Nursery that they have received authorization to process and dispense low-THC cannabis. The Gadsden County nursery in Northwest Florida is the first of the six dispensing organizations to receive processing authorization.

Trulieve CEO Kim Rivers said they will be able to begin statewide delivery almost immediately and intend to begin sales at a dispensary facility in Tallahassee on Tuesday.

Gov. Wolf: Access To Medical Marijuana Will Come to Pennsylvania Sooner Than Later

Pennsylvania’s Department of Health expects to begin working soon with physicians from health systems and professional organizations as it writes medical marijuana program regulations.

Secretary of Health Karen Murphy said Tuesday that her department also will seek guidance from the physicians on carrying out the medical marijuana law’s research program.

The department says it’ll take until early 2018 to make medical marijuana available to eligible patients. However, Gov. Tom Wolf tells the “KDKA Morning News” it won’t take that long to get access.
