Judge rules to reopen Montana marijuana dispensaries immediately

A judge on Wednesday cleared the way for Montana's medical marijuana dispensaries to reopen after a three-month hiatus by ruling that a drafting error in a voter-approved ballot initiative should not delay the measure's implementation.

District Judge James Reynolds of Helena ruled the error that pushed back the effective date of a key portion of the initiative until July 1 should not keep very ill patients from accessing the drug immediately.

"The folks that are maybe the most in need are the least able to provide, to grow their own," Reynolds said in making his ruling. "I think speed is more important than niceties."

Washington: Can’t Pay For Your Medical Marijuana? A New Fund Might Help

A Washington cannabis business group is starting a fund to help patients defray the cost of medical marijuana.

The Washington CannaBusiness Association said Tuesday that the new charitable effort will expand patient access to medical marijuana.

Marijuana’s illegal status at the federal level can present challenges to patients seeking the assistance they can get with so many other medicines.

“People don’t have access to the same kinds of opportunities to get assistance for their medicine,” said WACA Executive Director Vicki Christophersen.

“We heard, and have been hearing from patients - legitimate patients who have an authorization - there are people having a difficult time accessing their medications.”

Australia: Orange Joins First Cannabis Drug Trial To Combat Cancer Treatment Side Effects

Cancer patients will have the chance to join a world-first medical marijuana trial at Orange Health Service.

Currently, half of cancer patients treated with chemotherapy suffer significant nausea and more than a third experience vomiting.

Marijuana, or cannabis will be compared to anti-nausea medications.

Oncologist Rob Zielinski said the trial involved a new cannabis compound and would be administered through a tablet.

To be eligible, patients have to suffer nausea from chemotherapy.

“The actual (chemotherapy) drugs we choose to use have varying degrees, or severity of nausea,” Dr Zielinski said.

“Certain drugs cause nausea 100 per cent of the time.”

It's Time To Normalize Medical Marijuana In Pro Sports

Steve Kerr has a bad back. The condition caused him so much physical pain that Kerr, the current head coach of the Golden State Warriors and a member of five NBA championship teams during his playing career, underwent surgery to resolve it. Complications and recovery from the procedure led to him missing the first half of the 2015-2016 regular season. He was in enough pain that he took marijuana to relieve the pain. And that has him a bit crosswise with some people in the NBA, which frowns on any use of marijuana.
