Boy's epileptic fits stop after he visits US and uses cannabis

Doctors are successfully using cannabis to treat a schoolboy with an ‘uncontrollable’ form of epilepsy.

Billy Caldwell, 11, from County Tyrone, Northern Ireland has been suffering frequent and life-threatening seizures for almost all his life.

But he’s gone 15 days without a fit after doctors in Los Angeles started giving him daily doses of cannabis oil to swallow.

His mother Charlotte, who flew to the US with him now hopes politicians in the UK will legalise the drug for medicinal use.

‘Billy isn’t sitting smoking joints, obviously, he gets daily syringes of the oil into his mouth – and the results speak for themselves,’ said Charlotte.

Manitoba's 1st medicinal marijuana centre for veterans opens

It's a sight typically seen in Royal Canadian Legion halls — veterans gathered and sharing stories. But instead, that was the scene at the opening ceremony for a new wellness centre in Headingley, Man. this weekend, which focuses on helping vets get medical marijuana.

The province's first Marijuana for Trauma centre opened on Saturday morning, the 13th such centre the company has opened in Canada.

The centre, located west of the Perimeter Highway at 4280 Portage Ave., helps veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder and other conditions get access to marijuana for medicinal purposes.

"Marijuana for Trauma grew from an absolute need, a true need," said Riley McGee, the western Canada director of operations for the company.

Medical Marijuana To Be Allowed In New York Hospitals

Medical marijuana is for suffering patients. That seems obvious, but there are a lot of policies in America that prevent suffering patients form using medical marijuana. Hospitals are centers for suffering people. It’s where people go to be treated and hopefully healed. Marijuana is a proven medicine, so one would think that people would be able to use marijuana in hospitals in certain forms. I don’t think that anyone would rationally think that anyone would smoke anything (marijuana included) in a hospital, but administering cannabis oil or marijuana edibles to a patient in need doesn’t seem like a big deal.

The Major Way Israel Is Putting America to Shame on Marijuana

Crowds from around the globe flocked to Tel Aviv in March for the second annual CannaTech conference. The summit was aimed at attracting fledgling marijuana ventures to the country and included speakers from medicine, politics, science, agriculture, and investments.

“Everything is set up here to be the epicenter of cannabis research,” organizer Clifton Flack told Quartz.

Why medical marijuana research is blossoming in Israel.

The Israeli government's stance on medical marijuana research and the country's cultural landscape make it far friendlier to marijuana than the puritanical policies of the U.S. government.
