Anecdotally, medical marijuana has been extremely successful for managing symptoms of multiple sclerosis. Researchers now want to find out why.

For the more than 400,000 Americans suffering from multiple sclerosis ― an autoimmune disease that affects the brain and spinal cord ― the currently available treatments often fall woefully short.

UK Cannabis Campaigner: I'll Carry on Breaking the Law Until Drug Is Legalised

A CAMPAIGNER battling to legalise cannabis to combat her painful disease landed in court after warning police of her unlawful behaviour.

Multiple sclerosis sufferer Michelle X tipped-off officers, emailing them to reveal she was growing 'medicinal' cannabis in her Abingdon home.

The 49-year-old, who was handed a six-month conditional discharge, told magistrates she would keep breaking the law until the class B drug is legally used to treat medical conditions in the UK.

She was also overheard confessing she was in breach of an antisocial behaviour order during a conversation with the prosecution while magistrates decided her fate.

Sentencing her on Monday, magistrates told X they had to follow 'rules which dictate us'.

While Israel is already a world leader in medical cannabis research, for the first time the government has decided to fuel the blaze.

Describing the initiative as “a pioneering step,” the ministry said the funds will enable scientists to perform both basic and applied research for five years, developing the tools and infrastructure “that will lead the next generation of medical cannabis products.”

Australia: Medicinal Cannabis Campaign Demands Better Access to Drug

Some of Australia's most high-profile medicinal cannabis advocates have banded together to launch a new campaign for better access to the drug.

Federal legislation passed last year was supposed to give patients access to cannabis for medicinal use but Lucy Haslam and Barry Lambert said it was harder to get than ever before.

They are asking Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull for an amnesty on compassionate suppliers and for new Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt to take this opportunity to fix the regulations.

Oregon Rakes in $60 Million in State Sales Taxes from Marijuana

Recreational marijuana sales in Oregon produced $60.2 million in state tax revenue in 2016, the first year of state-taxed pot sales.

For much of the year, marijuana sellers collected a 25 percent sales tax.

To produce the $60.2 million in tax revenue reported by the state Department of Revenue on Friday, total retail sales of marijuana and pot-laced products last year would have had to equal about $241 million.

Marijuana tax revenues exceeded projections, said Mazen Malik, senior economist for the Oregon Legislative Revenue Office. He had estimated marijuana sales would produce $44 million during the year, $16 million less than what came in.

Marijuana: A Career Opportunity?

At a school career day event recently, a few students approached San Joaquin Delta College horticulture instructor Michael Toscano and asked him, in so many words: "Can you teach me how to grow marijuana?"

They were serious, he said. With the passage of Proposition 64 last November legalizing recreational marijuana use, a brand-new industry will emerge in the years to come with legitimate jobs for those willing to learn.

Which is why Toscano is now unofficially marketing some of the classes he teaches at Delta as learning opportunities for those who want a future in the pot business.

Can marijuana laced chewing gum treat irritable bowel syndrome?

A study suggests that a chewing gum laced in cannabis can cure irritable bowel syndrome, reducing painful stomach cramps, control bloating and normalise stool.

Researchers from Wageningen University in the Netherlands claims CBD - a key property in marijuana - could ease the colon spasms that seem to be the root cause of symptoms, reports Dailymail.

"We are excited to see that Axim Biotechnologies Inc (AXIM) has reached another milestone in its clinical development program," said Dr. Stuart Titus, CEO of Medical Marijuana, Inc.

"This is the first advancement in cannabinoid research for treatment of IBS in medical history and gives a clear example of how far ahead AXIM is in its clinical development programs," Titus added.
