Trulieve opens medical marijuana dispensary in Tampa

Permanently disabled from a car crash that injured her back, Morris, 53, moved from Florida to Colorado after voters here rejected a medical marijuana referendum in 2012. She left her children and grandchildren with a hunch that access to medical cannabis in Colorado would work better than the opiates that had turned her into a "zombie."

"From that day on, my quality of life changed," she said. "I started doing walks around the park. I started feeling better about life. I'm able to talk and be alert and do things and even go back to school to earn my bachelor's."

Now Morris is back in Florida, where medical marijuana recently became legal. On Thursday, the Port Richey resident was one of the first patients in Hillsborough County's second medical marijuana dispensary.

This Ex-Banker Wants to Swap Your Chamomile for Cannabis

Visit a dispensary in one of the 28 states that legally sell marijuana and you’re likely to find products with monikers like God’s Green Crack, Super Lemon Haze or Skywalker. That’s all about to change as a new breed of ganjapreneurs swoop into the fledgling industry. In a classic consumer-marketing move, they’re getting rid of stoner slang and replacing it with supermarket-friendly names that purport to help customers live better.

Their message: Weed is no longer just for getting high. It’s to help you through your stress, ease you into sleep and get you in the mood for love. In other words, these marketers want to transform the image of marijuana so that it competes with scores of products already in liquor stores, markets and pharmacies.

Florida: Medical marijuana lags in the Legislature

Debates have begun to put voter-approved medical pot into state law and patients' hands.

State senators and officials with the Florida Department of Health have rolled out their initial plans to enact Amendment 2, which was supported by 71 percent of voters in November, and House leaders are finalizing their own ideas.

But they have already earned criticism from advocacy groups who say the state's plans are falling short of what voters intended.

Ben Pollara, who ran the medical marijuana campaign and is now lobbying the Legislature's implementation of it said DOH rules are "in direct contradiction" of Amendment 2 and that the Senate is off to "an encouraging start."

Arkansas: Potential bill may make smoking medical marijuana illegal

State lawmakers will soon debate two more possible changes to Arkansas’ medical marijuana law.  One bill that is likely to be filed would prohibit patients from smoking marijuana. The other would delay implementation until the federal government legalizes its use.

“All this is,” said State Senator Jason Rapert, “is snake oil wrapped up in a joint that you’re going to smoke.”

Sen. Rapert supports a smoking ban, and said he will author a bill to harmonize the state law with a federal law. He mentioned that he is watching the implementation of the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Amendment closely, “to make sure that, if this is going to go forward, that it’s going forward as medicine. You don’t have to smoke dope and get high to get well.”

Legal Loophole Allowing for Low-THC Cannabis Sale in Switzerland

A legal form of cannabis, C-Pure, is being bought, sold, and consumed in Switzerland due to an inadvertent legislative loophole – throwing into question the wider ability and purpose of policing cannabis.

C-Pure is legal under Swiss law as it contains less than one per cent THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), the main psychoactive constituent of cannabis. Dario Tobler, director of Bio Can AGOrganic – the company that created C-Pure – says that the product “has no intoxicating effect” because of its low THC content.
