Marijuana and fitness are generally not associated with one another — but gym owner Jim McAlpine is hoping to change that.

McAlpine will be opening the world’s first “cannabis gym” in San Francisco in May. In addition to being a traditional gym and wellness center, Power Plant Fitness will allow members to consume cannabis at the gym before or after their workouts.

Italy's Health Ministry Publishes Guide to Medical Cannabis

Italy’s Health Ministry has published the definitive “all you wanted to know about” guide to medical cannabis.

It is targeted to physicians who can prescribe it and to pharmacists who can sell it. In addition, it offers information about precise dosing, administration, special warnings, possible drug interactions and side effects, and overdose. These people in the UK are ditching their pharmaceutical medications for cannabis

On Tuesday we reported on the newest study into the relationship between cannabis and pharmaceutical medication, after researchers from the University of British Columbia and the University of Victoria found that patients suffering from chronic pain and mental health issues were ditching their traditional opioid-based medications in favour of cannabis.

Virginia: Garrett introduces legislation to remove marijuana from controlled substances list

5th District Congressman Tom Garrett introduced legislation aimed at federally decriminalizing marijuana.

The short title for this legislation is cited as the "Ending Federal Marijuana Prohibition Act of 2017." If passed, this bill would take marijuana off the federal controlled substances list - joining other industries such as alcohol and tobacco.

Originally introduced by Senator Bernie Sanders in 2015, this bill fulfills a responsibility to create a level playing field across the country.

CanniMed Therapeutics Inc. and PharmaChoice Enter into Canada’s First Exclusive Pharmacy Distribution Agreement for Medical Cannabis

CanniMed Therapeutics Inc. (TSX:CMED) (“CanniMed”) and PharmaChoice today signed a letter of intent to collaborate on pharmacist education and the distribution, sale and marketing of medical cannabis products.

This industry-leading collaboration will see CanniMed responsible for producing and delivering accredited pharmacy education programs to PharmaChoice pharmacists and pharmacy technicians across Canada. In addition, CanniMed and PharmaChoice intend to enter a definitive agreement for distribution of medical cannabis through PharmaChoice pharmacists in Canada upon completion of the first provincial legislation change that allows such distribution.

University of Waterloo in Sponsored Research Agreement to Develop Cannabis-Oil Based Cancer Treatments

The University of Waterloo has inked a sponsored research agreement with Algae Dynamics Corp. to perform fundamental research on cannabis oil and its constituents, with an eye toward developing treatment of cancers of the colorectum, pancreas, breast and prostate.

This announcement follows the Algae Dynamics previously announced new strategic initiative to explore the extraction of oils from other botanicals in addition to algae, most notably cannabis, and to seek product development and formulation opportunities that combine the benefits of algae and cannabis oils.

Georgia House passes medical marijuana expansion

The state House on Wednesday backed a much broader expansion of Georgia’s medical marijuana law, a statement vote after the Senate backed a similar measure that left many advocates unhappy.

House Bill 65, sponsored by state Rep. Allen Peake, R-Macon, would among other changes double the list of illnesses and conditions eligible for treatment with medical marijuana in Georgia to include AIDS, Alzheimer’s disease, autism, autoimmune disease, epidermolysis bullosa, HIV, peripheral neuropathy and Tourette’s syndrome.

Australia: Victoria Grants Medical Cannabis Access To 29 Sick Children

Twenty-nine critically ill children will be granted early access to a medical cannabis treatment grown by the Victorian Government, it has been announced.

The children, who all suffer from epilepsy, will be granted access to medical cannabis imported by the State Government from Canada.

"To enable this compassionate access, a limited amount of cannabidool oral solution manufactured by Canadian company Tilray... was purchased by the government and arrived in Melbourne late last week," the government said in a statement.

Medical Cannabis Company Ready to Expand in Maryland

Maryland's medical cannabis program is expected to be fully up and running later this year, and in the coming months, patients can register with the state.

But there's a series of issues that still need to be resolved, even as marijuana growers and dispensaries are getting ready to open for business.

Marley company raises financing for medical cannabis

Start-up company Stony Hill Corporation, led by Damian Marley, has raised US$750,000 (J$96 million) to finance its sale of cannabis products.

That's according to the company's first set of financials since its reorganisation, released late February. Stony Hill began as a furniture business.

Marley will lead the restructured operation as president and CEO, with a team of eight employees based in Los Angeles, California in the United States. Marley holds the most shares in the company at 21 per cent. Jamaican born Damian, 38, is a Grammy-winning reggae/dancehall star known for songs like Set up Shop. He's also the youngest offspring of reggae legend Bob Marley.
