Emblem to begin importing CBD from Uruguay

Starting as soon as 2018, some Canadian ACMPR patients may see CBD-based medicines become more affordable, thanks to an international relationship announced in a recent press release between Canada-based licensed producer, Emblem Cannabis Corp, and Uruguayan cannabis firm, ICC.

With the modern climate of legalization, and cannabis research becoming increasingly approachable, scientists continue to discover new information about how and why individual ingredients within cannabis can be used to effectively treat medical conditions. The most commonly known active ingredient within cannabis is THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), and though the ingredient CBD (cannabidol) is not a new discovery, it is rapidly growing in popularity among enthusiasts and medical patients alike.

Advocates want medical marijuana in Florida, but not like California

Brightly lit and bustling, Harborside Health Center serves as something of a model for the medical marijuana industry — even as California’s freewheeling approach to cannabis is seen as an example of how not to do things.

As dozens of customers at Harborside pick their products, chatty budtenders talk knowledgeably about the selection, which includes cannabis for smoking, eating and vaporizing.

Business is booming: Between this store in Oakland and another location in San Jose, Harborside’s sales total $35 million a year. Sales are so strong that Harborside offers free yoga, tai chi and acupuncture to its customers, who must have a doctor’s permission to enter the store.

California: Is UCD going to get into the marijuana research business?

When Proposition 64 passed in California, legalizing recreational marijuana use, many people imagined that UC Davis might get into the pot business. With the No. 1 agricultural school in the nation, as well as a top plant biology program, UCD seems poised to become a cannabis research leader.

Not so fast, says Chief Campus Counsel Jacob Appelsmith.

“Under federal law, (marijuana) is a Schedule 1 drug,” Appelsmith said, as are heroin and LSD. Even as states are legalizing cannabis for both medical and recreational uses, the feds are not moving forward at the same pace.

What is CBD, and why it was seized from Alaska marijuana shops?

It won't get you high, but cannabidoil, a compound found in marijuana, is tripping up Alaska's cannabis industry.

Cannabidiol — commonly referred to as CBD — is a chemical compound often used in pain management. CBD is non-intoxicating, unlike its psychoactive counterpart THC, and it has shown promise in treating a wide range of illnesses, from anxiety to epilepsy.

Wisconsin lawmakers take up cannabis oil seizure treatment bill

A bill to ensure anguished parents can get a child seizure treatment is finally moving forward in the Wisconsin Legislature.

Senators couldn't agree in the last legislative session on the proposal, which would have made it easier to get a drug that is derived from marijuana and used to treat children who suffer from severe seizures and have few other medical options.

The state took steps to provide very limited access to the drug three years ago but legal restrictions around it still dog families.

Does Medical Marijuana Cure Addiction? Nevada Considering Expanded Medical Cannabis Bill To Treat Opioid Addicts

Nevada’s medical marijuana program could get an upgrade after lawmakers introduced a new bill Tuesday that would allow physicians and social workers to treat heroin and opioid addicts with medical cannabis, according to reports.

Under Nevada’s current medical marijuana law, doctors can refer marijuana products to people suffering from cancer, seizures, glaucoma, AIDS, spasms, nausea or chronic pain, but the program doesn’t support people suffering from drug addiction.
