New York reveals names of medical marijuana doctors

New York has published a partial list of doctors and other providers registered to prescribe medical marijuana, information the state had been keeping under wraps.

The list includes 22 Central New York providers -- doctors, nurse practitioners and physican assistants, most of them in Onondaga County.

The list only includes providers who have agreed to be publicly identified. The state health department said it is prohibited from identifying medical marijuana providers without their consent.

Nearly 1,000 providers statewide are registered to certify patients for medical marijuana, but only 32 percent are included on the public list.

White House 'reefer madness' clouding marijuana law

Policymakers seem to be conflicted about marijuana, and as a result, they're sending the public mixed messages. Laws regarding cannabis vary from state to state, and state laws may even conflict with federal law.

"Twenty-six states and the District of Columbia currently have laws broadly legalizing marijuana in some form. Three other states will soon join them after recently passing measures permitting use of medical marijuana," according to Governing.

This information was up to date as of March 23, 2017. That said, "Marijuana possession remains a federal offense," as Norlm points out.

Vermont House approves marijuana legalization bill

The Vermont House has given final approval to its version of a recreational marijuana legalization bill.

The measure passed by a vote of 75 to 71, following hours of debate.

The bill would make it legal for adults age 21 and older to possess up to one ounce of marijuana and grow two mature plants at home.

The limited measure does not create any new regulatory system for legally selling and taxing pot, nor does it fund new public safety or youth education efforts.

Critics, including Rep. George Till -- a Jericho Democrat and a physician -- said that spells trouble.
