The co-founder of the Portland-based cannabis research organization Habu Health will speak at this week's Cultivation Classic.

When Dr. Adie Poe looks at a cannabis plant, she doesn't see what most people see. What she sees are hundreds of bioactive molecules with the potential to create infinite experiences in the human body.

A global leader in opioid and cannabis research, Dr. Poe has studied the neuroscience of opioid/cannabinoid interactions for more than a decade, beginning with her undergraduate and graduate studies at Washington State University in both Pullman and Vancouver. Her work is consistently funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse and has received numerous awards in search of treatments for debilitating diseases such as chronic pain.

Tilray Medical Cannabis Products Now Available In Chilean Pharmacies

Tilray, a global leader in medical cannabis research and production, today announced that initial shipments of the company’s medical cannabis products have arrived in Chile, where they are now available for authorized patients to access. The products are initially available at select pharmacies in Santiago. This marks the first time a North American cannabis producer has successfully distributed full-spectrum cannabis-based medicines to patients through pharmacies in the Americas.

Canada: LIUNA Offers Medical Cannabis Coverage to Battle Opioid Crisis

Union wants to provide pain-relief alternative to discourage opioid prescriptions.

In a bid to discourage opioid prescriptions and to give workers a healthier alternative to the highly addictive drugs, an Ontario union is now offering medical cannabis products through its benefits plan. 

LIUNA Local 625 in Windsor announced the change to its plan Tuesday after two years of widespread consultation with pharmacies and cannabis suppliers.

"Now that we've added this, we're hoping more doctors ... will move towards prescribing the cannabis oil as opposed to the opioids," said Rob Petroni, business manager at LIUNA. "The most important part of this is to reduce the opioid use and or abuse."

Canadian Cannabis Company Starts Exporting To Cayman Islands

The Canadian based medical cannabis company - CanniMed Thera-peutics - exported its first international shipment of cannabis oil to the Cayman Islands, as a way of testing the territory's potential as an export market.

The company exported its first international shipment of cannabis oils this month, including 12,960 millilitres to a pharmacy here.

The shipment makes Canada the second country, after Jamaica, to export cannabis oils to Cayman since the product was legalised here last October.

While the Legislative Assem-bly legalised the oils for medicinal purposes, it did not approve local production, requiring legally viable product to come from abroad.

Georgia's Allen Peake Wins Medical Marijuana Expansion in Georgia

Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal approved an expansion of the state’s medical marijuana program on Tuesday, allowing people being treated for six additional medical conditions to possess cannabis oil.

The new qualifying conditions include autism, AIDS, Tourette’s syndrome, and Alzheimer’s disease. Patients must register with the state to be eligible and have a doctor’s permission.

Many of the additions restrict use to patients who are in severe or end-stage condition. The new law also allows people in a hospice program, regardless of diagnosis, to legally possess the oil that’s low in THC, the chemical responsible for the marijuana high.

Cannabis Legalization In Malta Looking Like A Sure Thing

Malta, a small island country near Italy has had its Labour Government pressing for cannabis reform for quite a while. Pot remains illegal in the country, however, possession of the plant has been largely decriminalized. Prime Minister Joseph Muscat wants to take that one step further through the “regularization” of recreational cannabis use within the country. He and a growing number of federal agencies are looking to conduct a “national discussion” on legalization.
