New Mexico: Gov. lifts secrecy veil on medical pot producers

SANTA FE – The names of New Mexico medical marijuana dispensaries and their employees will soon be made public, under a directive announced Wednesday by the office of Gov. Susana Martinez.

The Republican governor’s decision will reverse a long-standing confidentiality provision in the state’s Medical Cannabis Program and comes less than a week after a lawsuit was filed in an attempt to strike down the regulation that allows for the names of medical marijuana producers to be kept secret.

It will not apply to the 15,625 certified patients in the medical pot program – just the producers and their employees.

Oregon cities look to ban marijuana sales

VALE, Ore. -- On July 1, recreational marijuana became legal in Oregon.

Now, communities in eastern Oregon are taking action against the commercial sale of pot.

Many cities, like Vale, Nyssa, and Ontario that were highly against the passing of Measure 91, are looking at passing ordinances that would ban the commercial sale of marijuana in their city.

Last election, nearly 70 percent of the people living in Malheur County voted against Measure 91, a ballot measure that legalized marijuana in the state of Oregon.

But now they're getting a second chance to reject marijuana sales.

Douglas County puts marijuana sales bans on 2016 fall ballot

ROSEBURG — Voters will decide in 2016 whether to bar marijuana sales in the unincorporated parts of Douglas County.

The county Board of Commissioners unanimously approved two ordinances this week after hearing impassioned testimony from marijuana fans and foes.

The first would bar medical marijuana dispensaries in rural parts of the southwest Oregon county from selling recreational marijuana products; however, it will have no immediate impact because there are no dispensaries in those areas.

Anchorage police seize marijuana delivery cars

ANCHORAGE –

The owners of a new marijuana business in Anchorage are furious, accusing police of stealing from them.

Wednesday night, a delivery driver with Absolutely Chronic Deliver Company — or ACDC — had his car seized by Anchorage police officers after making a drop at the Lakefront Anchorage, formerly the Millennium Hotel.

“I came out and I had two APD officers tell me to step out of my vehicle, yelling and screaming, ‘Show your hands, turn off your vehicle, get out,’” said Michael Everly. “They put me in the back of one of their police cars.”

ACDC is a delivery business that brings donated marijuana to customers for a $10 delivery fee. Michael Crites, co-owner of ACDC, said the police had no justification for this action.

Meet the Italian 'Colonel Mary Jane'

For nearly a century, the Italian army has produced medicine for the country.  This year, they’ve taken on the production of a new drug: marijuana.

An unmistakable aroma fills the air of an immaculate lab.  Dressed in a white lab coat, Antonio Medica carefully clips away at a leafy green plant with his garden scissors. It’s a big day for him. He’s finally harvesting his first marijuana crop.

But Medica isn’t your next-door grower.  He’s a colonel in the Italian army. His lab is inside the army’s pharmaceutical facility — a highly guarded base in Florence. This year, they’ve taken on the production of a new drug.

“Our variety contains the two active principals, THC and Cannabidiol,” said Medica.

Cannabis smokers left high and dry

Uruguay made history when it legalised the sale of marijuana but its progressive policy has led to distrust and police harrassment.

In the back room of a store in the Uruguayan capital, connoisseurs pore over boxes of Ziploc bags containing seven varieties of marijuana, with names like Amnesia, Chocolope, Tangie and Sour Power.

The stash belongs to members of the 420 Cannabis Club, who are collecting their monthly allowance of 40g while the next harvest basks in the orange glow of sun lamps in a ventilated room upstairs.

Israel: MKs boycott meeting on cannabis legalization

Boaz Wachtel of the Green Leaf Party said 13,000 people are arrested for using cannabis each year.

Most members of the Knesset Committee on Drug and Alcohol Abuse boycotted a meeting Tuesday on “progressive cannabis policies,” in protest against panel chairwoman Tamar Zandberg (Meretz) being pro-legalization.

MK Eli Cohen (Kulanu) wrote a letter to Zandberg in the name of six of the committee’s 10 members, saying they would not attend in protest of her “turning [the committee] into the caucus to promote cannabis..instead of the goal for which the committee was formed to fight drug abuse and drug-related crimes, rehabilitation of users, and public campaigns to prevent drug and alcohol abuse in general and especially among youth.
