White House Admits Marijuana Prohibition is Racist

A new White House report admits that marijuana’s illegality is contributing to racial inequalities in America.

“A black individual is nearly four times as likely as a white individual to be arrested for marijuana possession, even though black and white individuals reported using marijuana at similar rates,” says the new report on barriers that prevent disadvantaged youth from achieving their full potential.

Cannabis Semantics

Prohibition is based upon "Double Speak"

In scientific terms, the correct word is Cannabis. Sativa is simply Latin for 'cultivated': as in cannabis sativa (L). Using the terms marijuana, pot, marihuana or even hemp obscures the reality and taxonomical origins of the species.  Artificial divisions are created and thus maintained by the Ministry of Truth.

How often do we see in the mainstream media, "Hemp is a cousin to marijuana."  This is nonsense and it is deliberate deception.

Germany: Bremen's government wants to allow pot smoking

Carsten Sieling has just been  President of the Senate and Mayor of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen for a few days . But he already makes a nationwide sensation - he wants to legalize cannabis. The taxpayers' money.

The new President of the Senate, Carsten Sieling first time a mayor of Bremen has called for the legalization of the drug cannabis. It is undisputed that the criminalization of cannabis was no longer up to date, the SPD politician Sieling said. Alos, high costs would arise with the police and the prosecuting authorities. Therefore, decriminalization would save public money in the end.

The police are decriminalising weed in New Zealand

Why the cops are going soft on pot but politicians are not

Chris Fowlie is the head of the National Organisation for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML) and he really doesn’t like the way the police enforce the Misuse of Drugs Act. In a recent post on The Daily Blog, he argued that the authorities maliciously target harmless dope smokers, causing them far more harm than a joint ever could.

"Smoke-in" planned for police HQ, Winnipeg

A “smoke-in” in support of Winnipeg’s only medical marijuana dispensary is planned to take place just outside Winnipeg police headquarters Monday morning.

The peaceful protest at the Public Safety Building on Princess Street follows two visits Glenn Price said police made to his store, Your Medical Marijuana Headquarters, on Tuesday and Thursday of last week. The store owner says police are trying to force him to stop selling the medical weed because he has not been approved by Health Canada.

Raids bust dreams of tribal marijuana bonanza

Wendy Del Rosa, one of two warring siblings claiming to lead a tiny Indian band just south of the Oregon border, began urgently writing to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Sacramento in early May.

The Alturas Rancheria – totaling three members or nine, depending on which faction one believes – had not been content with the earnings from its humble wood-plank gambling house, the Desert Rose Casino. It had pursued various ill-fated ventures, including payday lending and manufacturing cigarettes.

Now, Del Rosa warned in a series of letters to authorities, the tribe was converting a cavernous, tented event center on the reservation into a huge facility for growing marijuana.

Ohio marijuana proposal in danger of falling short

CINCINNATI — The marijuana legalization effort in Ohio is in danger because it does not have enough signatures yet to put a measure on the Nov. 3 ballot.

“We’re coming in lower than we were expecting,” said Ian James, executive director of ResponsibleOhio, the private investor group that wants to legalize marijuana this year.

Ohio’s secretary of state is expected to announce as early as Monday whether ResponsibleOhio gathered enough valid signatures of registered Ohio voters to get the measure before voters in 2015. ResponsibleOhio needs 305,591 signatures to qualify. On June 30, the group turned in 695,273 signatures with the goal of ensuring it would have the right number, 50%, to qualify.

The Great Canadian Cannabis Catch-Up

In a decade and a half of practising law, I’ve never come across an industry changing and evolving as rapidly as Canada’s medical cannabis industry.  It’s fascinating, but it’s also time-consuming to stay abreast of everything that’s going on.  So in case you blinked recently, here’s a quick update on my ‘top ten’ list of current issues:

Cannabis is Safer than Child Protective Services

Foster care can be a dangerous place for children. Foster children may be neglected, injured, sexually and physically abused, or even murdered by foster parents. But for foster children living in medical marijuana states, often the greatest danger can be CPS itself.

Marijuana in Alaska has long been legal. Now the state is struggling to regulate it.

ALASKA  – Native Alaskan Leif Abel knew how to hunt, fish, trap and grow organically by the time he was eight. In the family greenhouse, marijuana plants grew among the tomatoes, cucumbers and garden flowers.

“On the Yukon when I was a kid, it was as normal as anything else,” he recalled. “I probably was pretty old before I realized that it was a little bit of a societal taboo.”

Last November, Alaska legalized recreational marijuana use. The voter initiative passed 53 percent to 47 percent, but it was hardly unforeseen to people like Abel living in the state’s interior. Long ingrained in their culture, Alaskans have been growing and using marijuana in their homes for decades.
