Tempe medical pot technology company acquires Denver tech business

American Green Inc., a Tempe-based technology company that works in the medical marijuana industry, has bought a Denver business that provides a unique cloud-based system to track products.

American Green plans to use TrackX LLC’s patented radio frequency identification tracking and physical asset management system to track medical marijuana products for the first time, said Greg Patrick, marketing director for American Green.

“Twenty-three states are now legal for medicinal marijuana. What’s holding the federal government back is you have to track everything from seed to sale,” Patrick told me Tuesday. “They have to know where it comes from, and it’s a whole tracking nightmare."

Winnipeg's first medical marijuana dispensary now open

Winnipeg's first-ever medical marijuana dispensary is now open.

Your Medical Marijuana Headquarters opened on Main Street on Wednesday.

The store offers marijuana for purchase with the appropriate paperwork from a doctor.

Owner Glenn Price said the federal government has done a poor job of providing the drug to people who need it.

He said he's already been overwhelmed by the response from the community.

Price said there is a growing demand for medical marijuana, but he thinks more doctors should be open-minded about prescribing it.

Oregon medical marijuana growers prepare to expand into new retail recreational markets

WILLIAMS, Ore. — Forty-two years after Oregon became the first state to decriminalize small amounts of marijuana, the state is taking its first steps along a road leading to state-licensed stores selling limited amounts of it to anyone over 21.

"Oregon has long been a pioneer on sensible marijuana policies," said Anthony Johnson, chief petitioner on Measure 91, which on Wednesday makes Oregon the fourth state to adopt laws legalizing recreational use of cannabis for people old enough to drink.

He added though that he doesn't expect much increased demand for it.

Smoking it in public is illegal, but in Portland police are discouraging residents from calling 911 to report smokers.

Marijuana Investments: Massive Growth or Massive Bubble?

In 2000, The New York Times labeled the dotcom bubble as a "euphoric" time characterized by the period's extreme highs and subsequent crashing lows. The short-lived hyper success of the internet startup age did not die in vain; the phenomenon fundamentally changed technological innovation, business models, investment mentalities and the global financial markets. Now in our post-recessionary age, experts are predicting that similar to internet startups, cannabis will be the next industry to rock the business, financial and investment worlds.
