Contract sets industry-leading standards for wages, benefits and brings good jobs to the Portland area

PORTLAND, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Workers at Stoney Brothers, a marijuana dispensary in Portland, Ore. have approved the first-ever union contract for cannabis workers in Oregon and have joined United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 555. The vote to approve the contract was unanimous, and sets a new standard for cannabis workers in Oregon.

A third state official connected with legalizing medical cannabis has gone to work with one of the companies growing it.

Jamie Olson was a legislative analyst and a key figure in the startup of the industry. She helped lead the initial public meeting as the state prepared to select two growers to supply medical cannabis.

A Boulder company that manufactures cannabis-infused edibles has voluntarily initiated a state-wide recall on one of its products because of “a lack of temperature control during the manufacturing and distribution processes,” according to Denver’s Department of Environmental Health.

No illnesses have been attributed to the recall, the city confirmed.

The marijuana company, the Growing Kitchen, is recalling a breath spray product known as MaryMint Tincture after a Denver health inspector saw the product on the shelf of one of the city’s marijuana stores. The Growing Kitchen is asking stores and customers to destroy any remaining products, a number the edibles company estimates at around 60 packages.

The first televised advertisement in Denver for legal marijuana is scheduled to air on local ABC affiliate KMGH, the Cannabist reported Wednesday. The advertisement for Neos, a company that extracts cannabis oil and sells it in loaded vaporizer pens, is slated to run July 20 at 10:35 p.m., prior to "Jimmy Kimmel Live." The 15-second ad was expected to be the first of several marijuana-related ads to run on KMGH, and it would likely be the first ever advertisement for pot on TV.

CANTON, MI -- In the last week, Detroit-area law enforcement agencies shut down multiple dispensaries.

Raids, seizures and arrests occurred in Shelby Township last week and in Detroit Tuesday.

State Attorney General Bill Schuette's office on Friday authorized felony charges of conspiracy to deliver marijuana and delivery of marijuana against three Ypsilanti resident operating a dispensary in Canton.

That investigation began last September and culminated with execution of multiple search warrants in March. All three people charged pleaded not guilty.

PUEBLO COUNTY - As Colorado's marijuana industry grows at an incredible rate, so is the use of electricity to power the increasing number of grow facilities.  All this, as state deadlines for higher renewable energy requirements draw near, in just a few years. And Pueblo County is home to dozens of these grow operations, with no sign of business slowing down.

"Their electricity usage characteristically tends to be high density in nature," said Bret Jones, Black Hills Energy Sr. Program Manager, External Affairs.

A lot of lights, air conditioning and de-humidifiers are staples of an indoor marijuana grow. And in the past year and a half, Jones has seen the number of such facilities grow in the Pueblo County region.

Five coveted spots up for grabs as medical marijuana gets off the ground.

The nine-acre greenhouse outside Rochester leased by the Compassionate Care Center of New York is fully operational: It has temperature control and irrigation, and produces flowers, vegetables and, soon, with any luck, marijuana.

It will be no trouble to produce carefully engineered strains of medical marijuana by January, said Lewis Goldberg, a spokesman for the company. That's when the state's Department of Health has pledged to have New York's cannabis program up and running.

The weed-delivery business is not as exciting as High Maintenance.
