Ancillary Cannabis Industry Flourishing in Uruguay

Despite the fact that drug stores in Uruguay have yet to start offering state-sanctioned cannabis, ancillary companies have started turning up, and more are wasing established on an ongoing basis.

One of the more popular business designs is store stores that sell house cultivation products, as it’s legal now to grow independently. There are at least 20 such stores in Uruguay’s capital, Montevideo, according to France 24. Their target market is the nation’s approximated 20,000 house growers.

California city defends dispensary against feds, but next step murky

SAN FRANCISCO — The federal government’s decision to try to seize the property of a large medical marijuana dispensary cannot be second-guessed by a court, a federal appeals court ruled Thursday as it rejected a lawsuit by a California city that wants to keep the dispensary open.

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said prosecutors have discretion to bring the type of civil forfeiture action they are pursuing against Harborside Health Center in Oakland, and a separate procedure exists to challenge those decisions.

The court affirmed a lower court ruling dismissing the city’s lawsuit against the attorney general and U.S. attorney for Northern California.

Inside the Corporate Takeover of America's Marijuana Industry

Marijuana is a $40 billion business — and the guys gearing up to turn ganja into the next McDonald's don't even smoke the stuff. Is the culture of weed about to go up in smoke, or are we just paranoid?

Would you like some Alien Asshat? It’s $42 for two grams, or $11 for a half-gram pre-rolled joint, on the menu at a tidy little pot shop called the Seattle Cannabis Company. Also available: Super Silver Goo, Snoop’s Dream, Grand Daddy Purple, and White Widow. There’s a pot named God and another named Jesus. There’s also Juicy Fruit and Girl Scout Cookies, varieties made by two different growers, presumably battling it out to see who can get sued first.

Marijuana business flourishes in Uruguay

Working at a decidedly un-slackerly pace, employees are racing to get ready for the opening of the latest marijuana boutique to sprout up in pot-friendly Uruguay.

About 20 such stores have opened for business in Montevideo, the capital, in the past year and a half, since Uruguay became the first country in the world to not only legalize marijuana but create a regulated market for it.

“This is just the beginning. The market is wide open to everyone,” said 34-year-old Marcelo Cabrera, one of the business partners behind the latest grow shop, Tu Jardin (Your Garden).

Get ready for the green rush: Is marijuana marketing going mainstream?

In the US, marijuana marketing is quietly moving into the mainstream and a new, legal industry is challenging preconceptions about the target market, as Mark Lowe, co-founder of Third City, finds out.

Weed is becoming legit. Medical marijuana is now legal in 23 US states plus Washington DC, and full legalisation is slated to be on seven more state ballots for the 2016 elections. Despite strong opposition, not least from presidential candidate Chris Christie, and legitimate mental health concerns, changing social attitudes suggest that gradual decriminalisation is trending across the developed world. In the US, even most Republican voters don’t think state-level legalisation should be rolled back.

Even as laws change, the 'M' word is banned in head shops

PHILADELPHIA You still can't say "marijuana" in the head shop.

For years, the stores that sell marijuana pipes and bongs have insisted that the products they sell are for tobacco use, choosing their words carefully to avoid being ensnared in laws against marijuana paraphernalia.

As states and cities across the country have lowered the penalties for possession, a patchwork of federal, state and local laws means little has changed at the head shops.

“The map of the United States is colorful as to where you can lawfully buy paraphernalia and not use magic code words,” said Allen St. Pierre, executive director of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws.

Medical pot conference brings hard-hitting speakers to Portland

It exists, says company chairman Frank Fabrozzi, to support medical marijuana users whose cannabis medicines are not covered by conventional health insurance programs.

McDonald has had cancer as well as complications from a 2008 bite of a brown recluse spider that included a staph infection and heart failure. Throughout the day, he will inhale the Cannabis Sativa strain vapors in order to elevate his mood.

However, marijuana has various medicinal benefits.

“The absorption is that much greater when you vaporize rather than burn with a match, with the puff of a joint or smoking a pipe”, D’Amico said.
