Passing the Sniff Test: Odor-Minimizing Innovation Multiplying in Cannabis Industry

High Valley Farms has attempted several techniques to quell the odors coming from its cultivation facility that sits 20 miles north of Aspen, Colorado, amidst frequent grievances from next-door neighbors.

But doing so successfully proved hard, lengthy and expensive.

Up until now this year, it’s used a mist-vapor system and a dry-vapor system, both of which emit their own smells that some local residents discover offensive, creator and chief executive Jordan Lewis told county commissioners at a recent meeting. It likewise set up a hydroxyl system it hopes will remove smells before they get beyond the limits of its 25,000-square-foot greenhouse.

What Medical Marijuana Teaches Us About Disruption

The Drug Enforcement Agency labels marijuana a Schedule I drug, a classification for “drugs, substances or chemicals with no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse.”

Most in the United States disagree. The Pew Research Center reports that just over three-quarters of Americans believe marijuana has legitimate medical uses, and significant majorities within states think it should be legalized.

This puts pharma businesses in an awkward position, as new product development or even external communication could rankle the DEA.

Thai Farmers Should be Allowed to Grow Hemp

For years I’ve been an advocate of allowing Thai farmers to grow hemp. Hemp is the same plant family as pot.  Pot can get you high, hemp can’t because it doesn’t have more than a minute amount of THC.  I’m still as jazzed about allowing hemp to be grown in Thailand as I’ve ever been, but now I’ve added pot to the list.  I’ll start off articulating why pot should be allowed to be grown in Thailand, then will close with some mentions of hemp, along with some comparisons of drugs, including the world’s (and Thailand’s) most harmful group of drugs: alcoholic drinks.

How Much Money Would Britain Save If Weed Was Legalised?

If David Cameron turned around tomorrow and said, 'you know what? We need money and austerity doesn't seem to be working. Why don't we legalise weed and see what happens?'. What would it be like?

Well, Nick Chowdrey at Vice decided to find out exactly what would happen. How much would we make? How much would we save? Is it worth doing at all in the first place? (Spoiler: yes).

Regulating marijuana in Pierce County

It is legal to sell marijuana in Washington State but it's complicated in Pierce County.

"You have a legal business, but you're not allowed to legally operate. That's a very unusual circumstance," said Pierce County Councilman Derek Young.

In 2013 the county determined marijuana businesses couldn't get an operating permit until the federal government makes marijuana legal.

"So it's basically a ban," said Mike Henry co-owner of the Gallery, a marijuana retail store. Store owners like Henry have continued to operate. They hope the county will change the language in the ordinance allowing them to get a license without waiting on the federal government.
