Poll: Pa. split on legalizing marijuana for recreational use

A whopping 92 percent of women support medical marijuana compared with just 7 percent who are opposed. But only 43 percent of women surveyed said they back full legalization. For men, 87 percent supported use of medical marijuana if prescribed by a doctor while 52 percent said they were in favor of allowing adults to legally possess small amounts of the drug for "personal use."

Overall Pa. voters are split on full legalization – 49 percent are against it while 47 percent are for it – though unsurprisingly, two-thirds of voters 18-34 years old support recreational use of small amounts of marijuana.

Only 15 percent of respondents said they would probably or definitely use marijuana if it was legalized.

Jamaica to import cannabis - Bureau of Standards wants seeds to help guide regulatory framework

Bureau of Standards Jamaica (BSJ) has sought permission from the Government to import some 100 ganja seeds for a pilot project that is expected to guide the development of a regulatory framework for the country's emerging medical marijuana industry.

Amid reports that scores of local and overseas players are already lining up for a share of the fledgling industry, government insiders insist that it was important for Jamaica's regulatory mechanism to be able to stand up to international scrutiny.

"There are many, many players waiting, but of course, people want to see how we manage it," one insider said recently.

The source, however, made it clear that "it is not going to be a free-for-all in Jamaica".

Issue 3 marijuana legalization TV advertisement dissected

CLEVELAND - With less than a month until Ohio’s controversial marijuana legalization vote, supporters and opponents of Issue 3 are ramping up their advertising time.

ResponsibleOhio, the pro-marijuana group backing Issue 3, has been running statewide ads since August.

The latest TV spot “What does Yes on 3 mean for Ohio families?” addresses concerns that Issue 3 would create a marijuana monopoly.

“It’s a smart, safe plan,” a woman says in the ad. “Like most states that legalized marijuana, it initially limits the number of growers for strict regulation before adding more.”

According to the precedent set by other states, this claim is true in terms of medicinal marijuana.

Marijuana companies struggle to find a place to put their green

For some in the marijuana business, going legit is turning out to be harder than it looks.

A widely recognized benefit of marijuana legalization is the ability to regulate an industry that has previously thrived on the black market. But current financing standards are keeping legal businesses in the complicated, and expensive, practice of all-cash operations — from not being able to accept credit cards to figuring out how to store and keep track of their money and handling payroll.

This industry will struggle to mature because it doesn’t have access to traditional banking, says Derek Peterson, chief executive of Terra Tech, a marijuana production and retail company.

Oakland Continues Legal Action To Defend World's Largest Medical Cannabis

The City of Oakland filed a petition on October 5 for rehearing en banc in the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. The filing follows a federal ruling in August that Oakland couldn’t challenge the federal government’s forfeiture action in July 2012 against Harborside Health Center. The continued court case against Harborside is in violation of last year’s congressional passage of the Farr-Rohrabacher bill, which bans the use of federal funding for enforcement against state-legal medical cannabis operations.

Owner claims burned 'Weed World' van at concert worth $100,000-plus

MADISON -- A burning van that briefly entertained spectators attending a concert at Breese Stevens Field on Friday night was owned by an Alabama man who told Madison firefighters he had invested $100,000 into customizing the cab for his business.

The business is Weed World Candies, which sells marijana-flavored lollipops.

The burned-out 1999 Chevy Express van appeared to be a total loss and was the target of many amateur photographers outside the Avett Brothers concert. It was bright green, and was apparently part of a fleet of vehicles that travel the country selling marijuana-flavored candy and baked goods.
