New Pot Rules Will Double Prices, Crash California System

California’s new medical marijuana regulations could double the cost of pot and crash the legal system, says the founder of the state’s largest dispensary, Harborside Health Center, Stephen DeAngelo. The rules needlessly complicate the state’s supply chain to enrich union distributors at the expense of cancer-stricken patients, DeAngelo argues below.

Last session, California’s legislature finally did what the voters instructed them to do when they passed Proposition 215 almost twenty years ago: regulate the cultivation and distribution of medical cannabis.

Facebook's Massive Marijuana Spam Problem

Facebook has a huge spam problem across their most popular cannabis-related pages and groups. It comes on two fronts.

First, every post from any major cannabis-related page will get a dozen spam comments offering to sell cannabis and often other drugs. The accounts they come from are obviously fake when you check them out, and all they do is post offers for weed sales.

Wall Street Invests in the Future of Cannabis

Cannabis is still illegal on a federal level, so the USDA doesn’t regulate it and there are no laws defining the limitations of the word “organic”.

Since I started writing about cannabis four years ago, I’ve seen a lot of grow operations. And I’ve gotten a variety of answers when I ask the question, “Is this organic?”, but there’s one that I never get: “No.”

Some growers have told me, “Pretty much. Unless we have an issue that you can’t solve using organic pesticides.” Some say, “As much as we possibly can.”

MGC Pharmaceuticals Is Applying for a License to Grow Cannabis in Australia

MGC Pharmaceuticals will grow cannabis in Australia as part of its plan for the medicinal cannabis market.

Releasing a five-point plan for the local market, the company says it is working on applying for a growing license from relevant state departments

A short time ago, its shares were up more than 10% to $0.031.

Co-founder Nativ Segev says the medicinal cannabis market in Australia is an emerging opportunity for Australian patients, growers and the pharmaceutical industry.

“As Australia places itself on the global medicinal cannabis map, MGC Pharmaceuticals plans to play a crucial leadership role in the development of the domestic industry,” he says.

The five point strategy:

Cannabis Stocks Rally More than 100% and Continue to Move Higher

Earlier this month, GW Pharmaceuticals (GWPH) reported positive results from the first Phase 3 Clinical study for its Epidiolex product and this has served as a catalyst for several publicly traded cannabis companies.

This rally can be described as nothing short of a volatile explosion upward as some of the stocks under our coverage are up more than 500% during the last two weeks.

The cannabis stock market has not seen this type of performance since the first quarter of 2014 and we continue to monitor over 100 cannabis stocks for trading opportunities.

Legal Marijuana Business Finds Its Footing, Despite Challenges

Heightened competition in the market for legal recreational weed is pushing prices down and firing up border wars across state lines. Competition is so steep in Washington state that cannabis revenue growth has slowed as Oregon ramps up its adult pot sales.

What's more, in Colorado and Oregon there's more interest from out-of-state investors entering the recreational pot business.

Then there's California, where voters will decide later this year whether to legalize recreational pot.

Yet, for all the interest, the marijuana business remains fraught with risks and capital challenges.

Tweed expands its grow operation as marijuana reform laws loom

With the imminent legalization of marijuana for recreational use and increasing demand for medicinal cannabis, commercial grower Tweed is more than doubling its production space in Smiths Falls — and its sister company Tweed Farms was approved Thursday to sell product through its Niagra-On-The-Lake location.

Bruce Linton, chief executive of Canopy Growth Corporation, a $260-million publicly traded company with Tweed, Tweed Farms Inc. and Bedrocan under its umbrella, called the company’s newly-acquired licence a “major milestone” that gives it the green light to produce medical marijuana in what might be — at 350,000 square feet — Canada’s largest greenhouse.
