Marijuana Social Network Is Denied Listing on Nasdaq

Nasdaq officials have told MassRoots, a sort of “Facebook for pot,” that it can't join the exchange.

The Denver-based social network has 775,000 users from the 24 states where marijuana is legal medicinally (including those states where it's also legal recreationally), who use the platform to find like-minded people in their area, learn about nearby dispensaries, and follow pot legalization news. MassRoots has said it meets the criteria for listing on Nasdaq—it has a $40 million market capitalization value and “well over 300 shareholders” through over-the-counter markets, according to CNN Money.

It’s door-to-door delivery at decidedly high speed.

Aurora Cannabis Inc., which operates Alberta’s only licensed industrial medical marijuana producer, announced Tuesday that customers in Calgary and surrounding communities will be able to get same-day delivery of the drug used to combat a variety of ailments.

Cam Battley, Aurora’s senior vice-president of communications and medical affairs, said Alberta has quickly become the second largest per capita base of medical marijuana users in Canada, with some 3,000 patients now registered with the company since its launch in January.

Legalization of Industrial Hemp in America Is a No-Brainer, Says New Patagonia Film

The multipurpose plant, which has been used for centuries to make rope, textiles, foods, personal care products and more, became a controversial substance in 1937 due to the “Marihuana Tax Act,” which basically lumped hemp with marijuana and made it illegal to grow even though the former has no psychoactive properties. Hemp is listed as a federal Schedule 1 drug in the Controlled Substances Act.

US embraces marijuana as a mainstream business

With more states voting to legalise the product, a once criminal activity is fast entering the mainstream with financial institutions, advertisers, and blue-chip investment firms waking up to the wider possibilities of this flourishing industry.

Medical and recreational marijuana is now legal in 24 US states, with a further nine due to vote on legalisation over the course of this year.

Colorado was the first state to open up legal marijuana sales in 2014, and reported $1bn (€890m) in sales of the product last year.

More tellingly, the state’s tax take on marijuana is now double that of alcohol — a fact that has made every other state sit up and take notice of the potential revenue bonanza waiting to be tapped.

Marijuana millionaires cashing in on cannabis legalisation

Jeremy Moberg peers into a microscope at a leaf in a Petri dish. “Thrips”, he declares to a man wearing a facemask and surgical gloves. “We’ll get rid of those with neem oil.” Moberg spotted the pest while cloning in his greenhouse. He’s not your run-of-the-mill biologist or horticulturalist. The 41-year-old owns a marijuana farm with a multi-million dollar turnover in Washington state, USA, where the drug was legalised for recreational use in 2012. His expertise comes from two decades of growing illegally, deep in the woods, dodging the helicopter raids of drug-enforcement officers.

There's a Fight Over the Future of Marijuana in Los Angeles

A couple things seem clear: The city of Los Angeles needs to fully legalize at least some of the pot shops in town. And people of California are probably going to legalize recreational marijuana come November.

Los Angeles marijuana interests are battling as we speak over just how this will all shake out. Many want to legalize delivery services and ensure that back-end businesses like cultivators don't exist in the shadows. But there's serious disagreement about how many pot shops should exist in L.A.The rest is up in the air.

The Wealth Shop was granted a licence this week to operate in a shopping complex on West 10th Avenue in the tony Point Grey neighbourhood, near the University of British Columbia.

Malik Sayadi, who has been in charge of hiring for the store, said the group of young local entrepreneurs behind the dispensary likely benefited by not joining in on the green rush of the past several years.

Is State-Legal Marijuana Creating 'Big Marijuana'?

I recently did a TEDx talk on the development of “Big Marijuana.” The overall theme of this particular TED session was the “Potential in Polarity,” and/or the “Best of Both Worlds.” Given these two themes, my talk focused on whether state-legal marijuana is helping to create “Big Marijuana.” My talk was released on YouTube last week and you can view it here. But for those of you who don’t want to spend 18 minutes watching my presentation, this post summarizes my talk.
