Legal marijuana has become a buzzkill for breweries

Legal weed in the U.S. is impacting beer sales, according to a report.

Marijuana legalization is proving to be a downer for breweries in Colorado, Oregon and Washington.

A new report is revealing that markets in the three western U.S. states have moved away from tippling to toking.

Sales volumes have fallen by more than 2%, Cowan and Company said in the report, adding that even craft breweries’ sales have gone skunky.

Economy beer volumes for mainstream producers have fallen 2.4%. Premium brands like Coors Light and Bud Light are down 4.4%.

The report, quoted by the Daily Mail, says in Denver, the battle of the buzz is shifting faster to the bong from the beer bottle, with sales falling 6.4%.

Cannabis Industry Is Rattled by Trump but Thinks Federal Crackdown Unlikely

A month after the election, marijuana legalization advocates still await some clear indication of President-elect Donald Trump’s official stance toward legal cannabis.

Voters in eight states joined the legalization movement on Nov. 8. Those included two of the largest: California approved recreational marijuana while Florida expanded the use of medical marijuana.

Still, concerns continue to grow among marijuana proponents about how a Trump Administration will address legalized cannabis. They are especially troubled by Trump’s planned Attorney General nomination of Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions, a vocal opponent of marijuana legalization.

Big changes planned for Colorado marijuana laws on home growing

Hoping to preserve its marijuana law under the next president, Colorado is planning a slate of legislation designed to crack down on pot that is grown legally but then sold on the black market.

The goal is to cut down on complaints that Colorado’s liberal allowances for growing pot without a license has created a thriving network of illegal growers. Colorado allows medical pot patients to grow up to 99 plants, far beyond other marijuana states, and it also allows recreational users to group their allotted six plants into massive co-ops, entire greenhouses of pot that aren’t tracked or taxed.

Organic vs. Chemical Cannabis Fertilizers for Your Grow

Cannabis plants are resilient and resourceful. However, much like any other living organism, cannabis plants need nutrients. Also known as fertilizers, nutrients can be either organic or inorganic (chemical).

Before chemical fertilizers, traditional farming practices required you to keep the soil healthy and rich in nutrients by either using nitrogen fixers such as leguminous plants (e.g. beans, peas) as cover crops or by spreading manure. These were the basic methods used for centuries to keep gardens productive.

Peter Barsoom made his way up and down Wall Street over the last 19 years in his job overseeing consumer banking. His résumé includes turns at Merrill Lynch, American Express, and Morgan Stanley.

More recently, Barsoom added cannabis connoisseur to the list.

In 2014, the former financier saw a business opportunity in the Denver area, where marijuana-infused foods were increasing in popularity — in spite of usability issues. His startup, 1906, brings together scientists, chocolatiers, and cannabis experts to create a premium line of low-dose chocolate edibles.

Nevada's Countdown to Legal Pot: Who Is Allowed to Sell Pot?

The Elko Daily Free Press is counting down the days until marijuana is legal in Nevada by answering questions concerning the law.

Q: Who is allowed to sell marijuana starting Jan. 1?

A: While people who are 21 and older will be able to legally possess an ounce or less of marijuana starting Jan. 1, don’t expect any places to legally sell it at the beginning of the year.

The Department of Taxation has 12 months from Jan. 1, 2017, to be ready to receive applications for marijuana establishments. Once the Department begins receiving those applications, it will only accept them from places holding medical marijuana establishment certificates for the first 18 months.

After that other people will be able to apply.
