Cannabis Corp Vows to Stay in South Australia Despite Backer's Feud with Premier

Australian Cannabis Corporation founder Ben Fitzsimons has vowed to keep the business in South Australia despite high-profile backer Shane Yeend threatening to take his investment overseas and sue the Premier for “verbal assault”.

Speaking on radio this morning, Yeend accused Premier Jay Weatherill of verbally assaulting him “about a centimetre from my nose” at a Labor Party fundraiser late last year, and threatened to take his investments overseas.

Recalling the alleged confrontation on ABC Radio Adelaide this morning, Yeend said it was “like a Dr Jekyll, Mr Hyde deal: he turned into this tirade, about a centimetre from my nose … swearing”.

“… To be honest that’s not how a Premier should act in my books.”

Quebec-Based Hydropothecary Corp Is the Latest Marijuana Company to Go Public

Quebec’s Hydropothecary Corp. became the latest medical marijuana company Tuesday to open its business to investors eager to cash in on the burgeoning marijuana sector.

The company listed on the TSX Venture Exchange by way of a reverse takeover; shares opened trading Tuesday at $1.82 before settling to close at $1.55 apiece.

Nearly 3.6 million shares changed hands as many investors seek opportunities to pour into the hot marijuana market ahead of an expected recreational legalization announcement by the federal government this spring.

The company had been toying with the idea of going public for some time but had a couple “false starts” said CEO Sebastien St. Louis.

Oregon Issues First Recreational Marijuana Recall

The Oregon Liquor Control Commission has issued its first recall of recreational marijuana.

The OLCC says samples of Blue Magoo marijuana contained a level of pesticide residue that exceeds the state limit.

The Capital Press reports the marijuana was grown by Emerald Wave Estate and sold at Buds 4 U in Mapleton, a community 45 miles west of Eugene. The OLCC said people who bought the pot should dispose of it or return it to the retailer.

15% of Every Cannabis Harvest Never Makes It to Market. Here’s Where It Goes

There’s an interesting story hidden in the data that the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board (LCB) publishes every month.

The LCB compiles statistics on the weight of cannabis harvested, and the weight of cannabis sold.

Here’s the funny thing: The two numbers almost never match up.

There’s almost always more harvest weight than retail weight sold. Like, a lotmore. Over the past 20 months, Washington farmers have brought in a total of 286,962 pounds of harvested cannabis. During that same time period, retailers sold 239,712 pounds.

That makes a difference of 47,250 pounds—23 tons of cannabis harvested but not sold.

Cannabis Chronnoisseurs Are Tapping the Budding Fish-Friendly Pot Business

No longer forced to operate in the shadows, marijuana growers are learning to make their farming friendlier for fish.

Sunshine Johnston has been growing marijuana on her 2,000-square-meter Humboldt County, California, farm since 2013. She grew up in the area, in a community of homesteaders, or “back to the landers,” and many of her neighbors grew cannabis. But the drug was illegal, and during the 1980s war on drugs, helicopter flyovers and raids were commonplace. Entire farms were seized when one plant was found.

Why Marijuana Legalization Could Mean More Workplace Scrutiny for Canadian Employees

Workers in safety sensitive workplaces will likely see increased scrutiny of marijuana impairment by employers once the drug is eventually legalized by the federal government, says labour lawyer Julie Menton.

Legislation is set to be introduced by summer 2017.

But, a Calgary-based oil and gas safety group recently raised concerns over workplace safety risks associated with increased use of marijuana.

Ohio Medical Marijuana Entrepreneurs Want Residency Requirement for Business Licenses

Ohioans who want to start a medical marijuana business here urged regulators on Monday to issue the few lucrative cultivator licenses to Ohio residents only, at least initially.

As it stands now, the Ohio Department of Commerce plans to award up to 12 large grow licenses and 12 small grow licenses statewide, based on criteria including a company's business plan, security measures and industry experience.

Proof that the company is headquartered in Ohio, owned by Ohioans and plans to hire in-state workers factor into the review but are not required.

Kelly Mottola, who owns Hydro Innovations in Hilliard, said out-of-state companies will want to bring out-of-state workers.

VPR Brands Continues To Add To Its Robust Product Portfolio $VPRB

The legal cannabis industry has witnessed unprecedented growth over the last three years and this multi-billion-dollar global market is barely in the first inning of a multi-decade growth cycle. The growth of the cannabis industry has also led to the creation of sub-sectors that present attractive investment opportunities.

Earlier this year, we highlighted a company levered to the rapidly growing cannabis industry that provides a product not requiring them to touch the plant. That business was VPR Brands, LP (VPRB) and today, the company further expanded its product line after announcing the launch of The Honey Stick ProBox Kit.
