Up in smoke? The impact cannabis dispensaries have on property values is far from settled

cannabis plant

Proximity to cannabis dispensaries is often seen as a positive, but recent research from Vancouver suggests otherwise

Housing values are influenced by their proximity to desirable or undesirable land uses. For example, lakefront properties command a premium while those facing a noisy highway sell for a discount. However, proximity to cannabis dispensaries has proven to be a riddle, with conflicting evidence suggesting positive, negative or no impact at all on housing values.

The change will reduce some of the regulatory burdens for new and existing licence holders

As of April 19, cannabis processing licence holders in Canada will no longer need to submit a sales amendment application to sell their product.

On Thursday, Health Canada sent out an email to licensed processors across the country introducing the changes, which would automatically give a sales licence to all micro and standard processing licence holders and applicants.

Licence holders that aren’t currently authorized to sell dried flower will receive reissued licences with the amendments within the next 90 days.

Canadian cannabis sales projected to double to $8.8B over next five years

The pace of sales in Canada's cannabis market may be slowing down, but it is still expected to double over the next five years, according to a new report.

That's the big takeaway from the latest market insights by Chicago-based industry consultancy Brightfield Group, which noted that doubling will come as more retail stores come online and regulations loosen.

Brightfield said it expects Canada's cannabis market to grow at an annual rate of 10 per cent over the next five years to $8.8 billion, driven by increased sales in edibles and vape products.
