Great logos are recognizable in a blink. They also should make a lasting impression.

Target hits the bullseye, Nike goes swoosh, and Apple catches the eye.All three company’s iconic logos are unique, memorable and stand the test of time. They instantly and consistently do what a potent logo should: Identify a brand, make it stand out and, ideally, drive customer interest and sales.

We all know great logos, but we don’t all know that great logos aren’t easy to create. From concept to color to rollout, there’s much to consider when boiling your brand down to a single emblem.

A state Senate committee on Thursday unanimously approved a bill that would require medical marijuana caregivers to register and allows state agencies to share enough information to ensure pot grown for medicine isn't sold illegally.

While pot sold for recreational use has been subject to a battery of tests and regulations since it became legal last year, medical marijuana has gone relatively unregulated, requiring only that caregivers be at least 18 years old and have "significant responsibility" for the care of a licensed medical marijuana user.

Launched in December of 2013 to cover legalized marijuana in Colorado, The Cannabist features news, strain reviews, recipes, store maps and more about the state’s expanding marijuana industry. Some Republicans in the state legislature may be ready to legalize medical marijuana (though only if it's the non-smokable stuff), but at least one Democrat just wants all weed legalized.

Sen. Dwight Bullard, a Democrat representing Cutler Bay and current chair of the Miami-Dade Democratic Party, introduced SB 1176 yesterday. The bill would effectively legalize marijuana, even for recreational use, in Florida.

Bullard's bill is thoroughly in-depth. It would start by changing the name of the Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco to the Department of Business and Professional Regulation, and then it would set up a system to tax marijuana sales (the bill mandates about 5 percent of collected taxes should be used for studies on marijuana's safety and benefits).

On February 19, 2015, Safe Streets Alliance filed two lawsuits in the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado in another effort to derail the state’s legal marijuana industry. The new twist in these suits is that they make use of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, or RICO, to target defendants far removed from growing and selling marijuana. Whatever the ultimate fate of the legal actions, this is a troublesome development because these are the businesses with which investors have felt relatively secure.
