How Silicon Valley Got Behind This Marijuana-Delivery App

The Uber of medical cannabis delivery has arrived, and the venerable accelerator Y Combinator has given its rubber stamp of approval. Meadow, a San Francisco-based startup, allows card-holding medical marijuana patients to browse different types of cannabis from nearby dispensaries and place an order, and within an hour the goods will be delivered to the patient's door.

If you don't have a medical marijuana card, you can schedule an in-home consultation with one of the doctors Meadow has partnered with and get a recommendation to use medical cannabis.

Gatineau firm newest player in medical marijuana production

A Gatineau-based company is the newest player in Canada's medical marijuana market. Hydropothecary is licensed to grow the plants; now it's hoping within weeks to get the green light from Health Canada to start selling it. The facility is on an 80-acre farm along the Outaouais River in Gatineau.  For decades, the owner of the farm in rural Gatineau has been growing potted plants on his 80-acre farm.  Now, Louis Gagnon is focusing just on "pot". Gagnon has teamed up with two brothers-in-law, Sébastien St-Louis and Adam Miron.  Their company Hydropothecary has purchased his land to build a massive 35-thousand square foot greenhouse for medical marijuana.

Is the bloom off the bud?

The 'green rush' appears to be over, but local medical marijuana producer taking a slow, steady approach to growth

The bloom may be off the bud from the so-called dot.bong era when there was a rush of investment dollars into the licensed medical marijuana market last spring and summer.

But Bill and John Arbuthnot -- the father and son who founded Winnipeg's only licensed medical marijuana producer, Delta 9 Bio-Tech Inc. -- believe there is plenty of time for patient investors to make solid returns.

One of the first group of 13 producers licensed by Health Canada in April 2014 -- there are now 17, plus an additional eight licensed for cultivation only -- Delta 9 has been working the kinks out as it grows.

Light Years Ahead - the Future of LED Growing

It’s a known fact. A plant depends on sunlight for photosynthesis and proper growth. Greenhouse growers, however, have gotten around the need for constant sun by installing high pressure sodium and fluorescent bulbs in their operations. In some regions, supplemental light is no longer an option, but a necessity in today’s market to maximize daily light integral (the amount light received in a specific area in a day’s period) on shorter days.

And now, growers are turning to yet another alternative: Light-emitting diode (LED) lighting. Science shows that with LEDs, growers won’t sacrifice light intensity. Plus, they may actually control how a plant grows and in some instances, enable it to grow quicker through adjustments in spectrum.

Marijuana trimmers can move into jobs that make $90000

Not feeling the unpaid internship? There’s an alternative in states like Colorado.

Marijuana bud trimmers can make a starting salary of $12 to $15 an hour, The Associated press reports. Successful employees might eventually become gardeners or concentrate makers and take home as much as $90,000 a year.

The work entails trimming away the leaves from the marijuana plant and needs to be done by hand, using small scissors.

People think it’s a job for stoners, but it’s not, according to 32-year-old Brittny Houghton, whose family owns a dispensary in Colorado.

The First Weed Tech IPO

This week, Mass Roots—a sort-of Facebook for weed lovers—will be one of the first canna-businesses to go public.

Depending on your appetite for certain leafy psychoactives, you may or may not be aware of the quiet revolution that is happening with marijuana-based social media apps. From dating sites like High There and My420Mate to invite-only networking platforms like KushCommon, a recent David and Goliath-like victory from one of their kind has opened the floodgates.

It all started when Mass Roots, an upstart “Facebook for stoners,” took on the mighty Apple after being banned from the app store last November and, somehow, managed to beat the behemoth.
