Denver halts some pot sales over bug spray worries

DENVER — City officials temporarily halted the sale of millions of dollars worth of legal marijuana because of concerns that unapproved pesticides or fungicides have contaminated it.

This past Friday alone, city officials placed a "hold" on 60,000 plants at a single grow facility here after consulting with state agriculture inspectors and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. They previously had placed crops from six other facilities on similar holds, allowing the plants to keep growing but blocking their sale to consumers.

Some growers have destroyed their crops instead of waiting for test results, which are still pending.

Broadcast Your Cannabis Joy with Anonymous Geolocations

Who is Happy wants users to (safely) tell the world how much they love pot, and thereby incite social change

With the app Who is Happy, a user who’s just elevated their day with cannabis can anonymously declare their joy by tapping a button and activating a green, one-kilometer-wide zone on a map, thereby sharing the approximate location of their happy place, so to speak.

App users can also see other “happy users” nearby, track their personal “happiness” habits, and see how the green joy stacks up in countries across the globe.

Cannabis-based GW Pharma raising more Nasdaq cash

Cambridge UK life science company GW Pharmaceuticals is set to raise around $1 million new money with a sale of ordinary shares on the US technology market, Nasdaq.

The company, whose treatments are cannabis based, says the amount it wants to raise is undecided. But its stock on Nasdaq is currently edging downwards towards its lowest on the market so GW would be happy to raise anything north of $1million.

It plans to issue 1.25 million American Depositary Shares in an underwritten US public offering. From an opening price of123.22, GW’s shares fell 5.77 cents on last trading to 115.23 – dangerously close to the low of 114.22 and well distanced from the high of 123.22.

Environmental Regulation Can Make Growing Green

A 2011 study by Dr. Evan Mills at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory is still the touchstone for conversations about the problem of energy consumption posed by indoor marijuana cultivation. Much has changed in cannabis agriculture over the past four years, but there is no reason to suppose that the report’s jaw-dropping statistics have gotten better for the environment. According to “Energy up in Smoke: The Carbon Footprint of Indoor Cannabis Production,”

Keep your inbox empty with one of these four strategies

No matter how much time we spend trying to optimize our inbox — from batch checking messages to adding bells and whistles — email takes over our lives. Looking at my stats from last month, I received and processed over 10,000 emails (eek!), so finding the right way tomanage all this online correspondence has been critical for my day-to-day sanity.

Turns out, though, the "right way" to manage email depends a lot on your own personal style. I've rounded up some of the most popular and successful strategies so that you can decide which one is best for you:

Who will invent the cotton gin of the cannabis industry?

Innovation has always fascinated me, and it’s one of the aspects that I enjoy about publishing a business magazine and being a part of the cannabis industry.

Because it’s been a black market endeavor for so long, the business of growing and selling marijuana hasn’t changed all that much in the past few decades prior to legalization. Now, with nearly half the country allowing medical marijuana, four states legalizing recreational cannabis, a majority of Americans supporting full legalization and the federal government seriously considering the removal of marijuana from Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act, the creative process can really get ramped up.

Terpenes Found In Cannabis

Over 120 different types of Terpenes, in varying amounts, have been identified in cannabis depending on the individual strain. The reason for the familiar odor and even the ‘taste’ (which can vary from plant to plant just like the scent), are the plant’s terpenes.  Terpenes are a group of organic compounds found in many plants and even some insects. Terpenes become Terpenoids when altered through a process of drying, curing, or chemical extraction.  Terpenes like Limonene can be steam distilled from the skin of citrus fruits.  Each plant’s unique terpene content affects not only the aroma and flavor, but the medicinal qualities as well.
