The Future of Cannabis May Lie in Terpene Isolation

Terpenes represent the aromatic building blocks of our natural world. They exist in virtually any plant that contains a fragrance, which also happens to include cannabis. It would seem natural that the pursuit of preserving the terpenes that exist within our favorite plant profiles would also translate into the cannabis extract industry. After all, cannabis has been known to carry over a hundred known terpenes that are largely responsible for creating our favorite strain flavor profiles.

How High Can Weed Tech Go? Pretty High If You Ask Silicon Valley

Before recreational marijuana usage became legal in eight states, weed tech typically stayed in the realm of online discussions. In fact, it wasn’t that long ago that bongs and rolling paper were the most sophisticated ways to partake of weed.

Now, though, the mixture of recreational and medicinal marijuana laws has brought legal weed to more than half the country. As a result, Silicon Valley and other major technology players have become highly interested in developing weed tech.

Marijuana Industry Pioneer Launches Cannabis Streaming Firm

Chuck Rifici has launched Cannabis Wheaton to help tackle the expected demand once recreational marijuana is legalized.

Marijuana industry pioneer Chuck Rifici is turning to streaming — a business model often used in mining — to tackle what he says are growing pains facing the rapidly expanding sector.

There are 1.4 million square feet of licensed medical marijuana production facilities in Canada, says Rifici, one of two co-founders of Tweed Marijuana Inc., now a part of Canopy Growth Corp. That’s about one tenth of what will be needed to satisfy demand once the drug is legalized for recreational use, he says.

Inside the high-tech labs that make sure your legal marijuana is safe

The interplay between marijuana and technology is a story that’s been told a million times, but for some reason, everyone always leaves out the middle.

Generally speaking, the beginning and end of the process get all the attention. There’s the growing side of the story, with all the high-pressure sodium lights, variable wavelength LEDs, and hydroponic growing systems — and then there’s the consumption side: the concentrates, the vaporizer pens, and the Uber-style startups that will deliver a blunt directly to your doorstep at the push of a button. These are the stories you usually hear when the topic of cannabis tech comes up.

Marijuana Next Crop For Iconic Israeli Company Netafim

An iconic Israeli agricultural company part of the early national effort to “make the desert bloom,” as the Zionist catchphrase goes, is now turning to an unconventional crop: marijuana.

Founded in the 1960s, Netafim was the first popularizer of drip irrigation technology, which enables growers to control the amount of water their plants receive by watering the roots. Netafim buoyed the early Israeli economy by enabling the young state to grow vegetables in the desert, which were then shipped to Europe in the winter. Now the company is marketing its system to marijuana growers.

Netafim recently made its pitch at Cannetch, a global conference in Tel Aviv covering every aspect of the medical marijuana industry.
