Now that 51 operators for Saskatchewan’s cannabis retail stores are selected, the real work begins according to the president of one of the two successful applicants for the permits in North Battleford.
James Davey of Curativa Cannabis, a division of Envirosafe Chemicals Canada said his company was honoured to be part of the historical marijuana movement in Canada, especially with the amount of competition there was for the permits.
“When you think that there was a four per cent chance of being selected for one of the retail permits, it really is quite remarkable,” Davey told battlefordsNOW. “We are certainly proud to bring the cannabis retail business and opportunity to North Battleford.”
Curativa Cannabis, along with Synergy Five Investments LP was awarded the two permits allotted to North Battleford while Prairie Sky Cannabis received the lone licence for the Town of Battleford.
“We (Curative Cannabis) are moving ahead with our production licence for Health Canada,” Davey added. “We are pretty excited that we can go retail before the actual production licences open.”
Curativa Cannabis permits will not take effect until legalization occurs and must be operational within 12 months of legalization.
Davey added the current location on Thatcher Drive in North Battleford will undergo an expansion on both the building and staff.
“We will have a brand new professional store that will be nice and clean with all the equipment that we need,” he said. “We also expect to hire another three to six employees for the store so that there isn’t any lag in customer service.”
