Capitalizing on CBD

CBD drops

It appears Pakistan may soon be entering the lucrative and growing global cannabis industry. Prime Minister Imran Khan’s government announced late last year that it would allow for the industrial production of hemp, a cannabis plant containing cannabidiol (CBD) that many experts believe has numerous therapeutic benefits and is generally sold in the form of gel capsules, gummies, oils, supplements, and extracts.

Pakistani's marijuana-growers brace for the brutal reality of conflict

Peshawar:  For decades, Taj Muhammad Afridi has been growing some of Pakistan's finest marijuana. By now, at his family homestead in the Tirah Valley in Pakistan's tribal belt, hundreds of marijuana plants should be full-grown, some as tall as a one-storey house. Usually, at this time of year, he would be ready to produce a sought-after range of hashish. But Afridi's crops - and those of others nearby that produce eye-popping amounts of marijuana - have been abandoned, and are in danger of becoming another casualty of Pakistan's decade-long war against terrorism and Islamist militancy.

Smoking cannabis before puberty may cause stunted growth in boys

Boys who smoke cannabis before reaching puberty may grow less than those who don’t, according to research.

Scientists from Pakistan studied the hormones in the blood of 437 boys, including 217 who regularly smoked cannabis before puberty.

The researchers found puberty-related hormones such as testosterone were higher in the drug users and growth hormones were reduced.

By the age of 20, non-cannabis smokers were on average 4kg (8.8lbs) heavier and 4.6 inches (11.6cm) taller than smokers.

Scientists also found that levels of the stress hormone cortisol were significantly higher in saliva samples from boys taking cannabis.
